About The Position

The primary purpose of this position is to provide vocational evaluation services to individuals who are who are visually impaired, blind or deaf-blind consumers referred for testing by their vocational rehabilitation counselor. This is a diagnostic service designed to aid the consumer and counselor in identifying the consumer's interests, aptitudes, skills, and abilities for the purpose of establishing a realistic vocational goal and plan of services to reach that goal. The vocational evaluation may consist of paper and pencil testing (which may be adapted for use by people with no vision or limited vision); testing using computers, tablets, and/or other technology; manual dexterity and other motion tests; job sampling; job shadowing; and other methods determined appropriate by the evaluator.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in vocational evaluation, rehabilitation counseling, or closely related human services field from an appropriately accredited institution; or Bachelor’s degree in vocational evaluation, rehabilitation counseling, or a closely related human services field from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities; or An equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Knowledge of blindness and other secondary disabilities that will be encountered in the population served
  • Ability to work with people who has service animals
  • Ability to think creatively in viewing each consumer's situation taking into account various factors that are identified in formal testing plus environmental, economic, and other factors that impact the consumer's motivation to work

Responsibilities

  • Analyze all pertinent data from testing and other available information to complete the vocational evaluation report for the consumer's case record in a timely and accurate manner as this report serves as a guide to the vocational rehabilitation counselor in making case decisions
  • Ability to deal effectively with many different types of people to share and obtain information, including: Vocational Rehabilitation staff, doctors, psychologists, teachers, social workers, and other professionals, parents, employers, the general public, and on occasion, the court
  • Serve as a resource to rehabilitation counselors and placement staff across the agency
