About The Position

Visual Systems Specialist (Flight Simulation) Company: The Boeing Company BGS Training Solutions is seeking a Visual Systems Specialist (Flight Simulation) to join the Miami Training Campus team. The Visual Systems Specialist will maintain and verify flight simulator training device (FSTD) visual system compliance processes essential to Miami simulator operations. This role is an excellent opportunity to support Boeing’s extensive simulator operations network, which serves customers across Boeing aircraft programs and engages with diverse stakeholders in Boeing engineering, global regulators, business operations, and industry suppliers. The Visual Systems Specialist (Flight Simulation) will: Ensure day-to-day visual compliance and readiness for high-fidelity full flight simulators used for pilot training. Contribute to cross-functional teams that maintain certification, safety, and visual fidelity across a multi-program simulator fleet. Lead visual system upgrades, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement efforts within a large, mission-critical operations environment. This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at the Miami, FL training facility.

Requirements

  • Associate degree + 3 years of related experience, or Bachelor’s degree + 1 year of related experience.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills across hardware and software domains (projectors, GPUs, video processors, image generators, networking).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; experience producing technical documentation and status reports.
  • Ability to work onsite at the Miami Training Campus and support occasional off-hours or on-call activities.
  • Flexibility to work varying shifts and overtime as required.
  • This position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a “US Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. S 120.15 is required. “US Person” includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Computer Engineering, Optical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent experience.
  • Demonstrated experience with commercial image generators and visual software stacks (e.g., Collins EP-series, CAE Tropos/Prodigy).
  • Minimum 1 year of hands-on experience supporting visual/image-generation systems for full flight simulators or closely related simulation/visualization environments.
  • Practical experience with projector-based display systems, multi-projector edge blending/warping, color balancing, and geometric alignment for domes, cylinders, and collimated systems.
  • Experience developing and executing visual performance and qualification tests (brightness/uniformity, contrast, colorimetry, geometric accuracy, latency/temporal response).
  • Familiarity with regulatory and certification processes for FSTDs and related visual compliance requirements.
  • Experience managing airport/scene databases, including clutter files, ground traffic scenarios, and navigational visual aids.
  • Scripting or programming skills in Python, C/C++, MATLAB, or similar for calibration automation and tooling.
  • Knowledge of optical measurement methods and metrics (MTF, photometry, colorimetry) and experience using metrology tools.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to address regulatory or operational challenges effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain simulator visual systems (Collins EP-1000/8000/8100, CAE Tropos/Prodigy) in accordance with OEM requirements and company procedures.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve hardware, firmware, and software issues for projectors, GPUs, video processors, and image generation engines, coordinate vendor support and corrective actions.
  • Produce and maintain technical documentation, including architecture diagrams, test reports, calibration procedures, maintenance guides, and compliance artifacts.
  • Execute and verify regular backups and emergency recovery procedures for visual system software, content, and configuration data.
  • Maintain, update, and validate airport/scene models on a scheduled basis; prepare and manage supporting documentation in compliance with Boeing standards.
  • Manage airport scenes by adding and editing clutter files, ground-traffic scenarios, and visual/navigation aids to ensure operational fidelity.
  • Perform geometric alignment and image processing tasks, including edge blending, color balancing, and geometry tuning for multi-projector and multi-channel displays.
  • Tune visual ground-segment parameters and execute visual qualification tests to validate fidelity, latency, and performance against acceptance criteria.
  • Lead visual systems upgrade and update projects, including planning, stakeholder coordination, risk mitigation, and verification activities.
  • Support preparation and execution of initial, recurrent, and special simulator evaluations by ensuring visual system compliance and operational readiness.
  • Improve visual system performance, reliability, and maintainability through proactive analysis, corrective actions, and process improvements.
  • Manage visual system spares inventory and address obsolescence issues; coordinate procurements and lifecycle planning as required.
  • Implement and verify OEM service bulletins and firmware/software updates related to visual subsystems.
  • Establish and maintain effective communication channels among Device Managers, Simulation Technicians, and campus Engineering teams; provide timely technical reports and status updates to support operational transparency and collaboration.
  • Provide periodic technical support and troubleshooting for diverse flight simulation systems during pilot training sessions as required.
