About The Position

Member will support Darrington Ranger District visitor information services, an office and field-based position that provides detailed information about recreation opportunities to Forest visitors. This District has abundant mountain scenery and wild rivers, providing recreational access for more than 4 million people who live within the Puget Sound Area. This position provides public services through staffing the front-desk at the Verlot Public Service Center and participating in the field ranger interpretive program at Big Four Ice Caves.

Requirements

  • It is required that members have a great attitude, are interested in learning, and are a team player!
  • A driver's license is also required.
  • All participants must be between the ages of 16 and 30, inclusive, or veterans age 35 or younger.
  • Participants must also be a citizen or national of the United States or lawful permanent resident alien of the United States.

Responsibilities

  • Staffing/maintenance/cleaning of the Verlot Public Service Center
  • Maintenance/cleaning of the Verlot Public Service Center public restroom and Big Four facilities
  • Answering multiline phone
  • Greeting visitors and providing hiking/recreation information to the visiting public
  • Processing sales for merchandise and recreation passes
  • Taking inventory of needed supplies and communicating needs for ordering and restocking
  • Present interpretive programs that could include talks, conducted hikes/walks, and demonstrations to visitors
  • Manning an information table at a trailhead/picnic area to share local knowledge, trail conditions, safety tips, etc.
  • Assist visitors using program materials, including scopes and binoculars
  • Teach visitors about the Big Four Ice Caves, local history including the Big Four Inn, and other interpretive information
  • Remind visitors of safety and viewing etiquette
  • Responds to emergencies related to power outages, inclement weather, public safety, etc.
  • Collects visitor use data for visitation at the Public Service Center and in the field
