About The Position

Discover a wildly beautiful corner of Alaska and connect with adventurers from around the globe along the legendary Dalton Highway as an Interpretive Ranger Placement with the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. Join a dynamic team at the Arctic Interagency Visitor Center (AIVC), where the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS), the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), and National Park Service (NPS) collaborate to interpret and steward Alaska’s Arctic. This is your chance to inspire visitors, share stories of America’s wildest landscapes, and experience life in one of the most remote and breathtaking regions on Earth.

  • This SCA Position is authorized under the Public Land Corps Authority. All participants must be between the ages of 16 and 30, inclusive, or veterans age 35 or younger. Participants must also be a citizen or national of the United States or lawful permanent resident alien of the United States. Hours served can be applied toward the Public Land Corps (PLC) hiring authority.

Responsibilities

  • Welcome and assist visitors at the AIVC front desk
  • Share knowledge about USFWS lands and nearby treasures like Gates of the Arctic National Park and the Dalton Highway Corridor
  • Inspire travelers to make personal connections with these extraordinary places
  • Engage & Educate: Deliver weekly formal interpretive programs, informal daily talks and guided walks (training provided)
  • Create & Innovate: Use Canva to design or improve interpretive products - brochures, posters, exhibits, or educational kits
  • Support Operations: Assist with volunteer coordination and maintain our award-winning visitor center
