The Johnson County Museum seeks a part-time Visitor Services Associate to support daily public-facing operations at the Johnson County Arts & Heritage Center (AHC) 8:30am to 5:00pm Mondays and/or Saturdays, with opportunities for additional shorter shifts during the week. This position plays a critical role in delivering a welcoming, professional, and inclusive visitor experience aligned with the Museum’s “Visitor First” philosophy.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 1-year experience with advanced MS Office Suite.
  • 1 year of administrative and customer service experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate’s degree in office administration, business, hospitality, museum studies, or related field.
  • Experience working in an art/cultural organization, nonprofit, or government agency.

Responsibilities

  • Provides visitor services for the Johnson County Museum and the Johnson County Arts & Heritage Center (AHC), including opening and closing the Museum Store; greeting and assisting on-site visitors; and delivering high-quality customer service using a “Visitor First” approach.
  • Answers and processes calls to the AHC’s main phone line and responds to inquiries received through the Museum’s general email.
  • Maintains the visitor services area and Museum Store to ensure it is clean, organized, visually appealing, and well stocked with informational materials and retail products.
  • Utilizes designated software to accept and process payments for admissions, memberships, programs, and retail sales, ensuring accurate and professional transactions.
  • Responsible for appropriate cash handling of Museum and AHC revenues, including cash, checks, and credit card payments, in accordance with JCPRD policies and procedures.
  • Under the supervision of the Curator of Engagement, reconciles the museum cash drawer and prepares daily deposits.
  • Assists the Curator of Engagement with updating calendars, website content, and public-facing information as needed.
  • Attends to museum galleries as assigned, including conducting walkthroughs to ensure visitor safety and exhibit readiness; providing customer service and wayfinding support within the galleries; and assisting with basic cleaning and reset of interactive spaces, including KidScape.
