About The Position

The Visitor Information Specialist is responsible for greeting all Visitors Center guests and providing comprehensive information on Georgetown to ensure a quality experience and encourage repeat visitation. This role involves assisting with incoming calls, recording information requests, forwarding them to the appropriate personnel, and processing incoming brochures to assemble goody bags. The specialist will also handle retail sales in the gift shop, acquire and maintain knowledge of Georgetown's history, visitor attractions, hotels, and restaurants, and be familiar with all collateral material and merchandise. Additionally, the position assists in maintaining the Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB) general phone line and supports special events and activities.

Requirements

  • High school graduate, or equivalent.
  • Six (6) months of customer service or public contact.
  • OR Any combination of experience, education, and/or training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Knowledge of customer service practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of money handling practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of City policies and procedures.
  • Skill in effective communications, both oral and in writing.
  • Skill in using a computer and various software programs.
  • Skill in reading and understanding technical instruction manuals for software and other equipment.
  • Skill in composing text using standard business English and proper grammar.
  • Skill in performing mathematical calculations to make change and balance accounts.
  • Skill in solving problems that arise during special events and on a daily basis in the Visitors Information Center.
  • Skill in interacting with a variety of individuals by phone and in person.
  • Skill in creating a welcoming environment.
  • Valid Class "C" Texas driver’s license.

  • Assists with special events and activities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
