About The Position

As a Visitor Experience Associate, you’re the friendly face and helpful guide that makes each guest’s visit memorable. From first hello to fond farewell, you’ll help visitors feel informed, inspired, and excited to explore our living museum. If you love people, enjoy a fast-paced environment, and don’t mind getting a little greenhouse-warm, this role might be a perfect fit. This position is part-time about 20 hours per week - daytime, evenings and weekend hours are available.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • At least one year of experience in retail, hospitality, guest services, or a related field.
  • Friendly, confident communicator who enjoys engaging with visitors of all ages and backgrounds.
  • Comfortable with cash handling and point-of-sale systems (Altru experience is a plus).
  • Organized, reliable, and able to juggle multiple tasks.
  • Team-oriented, trustworthy, and resourceful.
  • Comfortable working indoors, outdoors, and in warm greenhouse environments.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office.
  • Able to stand and walk for up to 8 hours, lift up to 25 lbs, and work in varied conditions.
  • Committed to professionalism, inclusivity, and respect for diverse perspectives.

  • Bonus points for experience in museums, non-profits, tourism, or cultural attractions.

Responsibilities

  • Be an ambassador for the Botanical Gardens—warmly greet guests and help set the tone for a great visit.
  • Answer questions about exhibits, programs, events, and plants (don’t worry, we’ll help you learn!).
  • Process admissions, memberships, and retail purchases accurately.
  • Count and balance daily cash drawers with care and attention.
  • Support hands-on engagement through learning stations, family programs, Feed the Fish, and informal activities.
  • Welcome and assist scheduled groups and handle group admissions.
  • Help maintain clean, safe, and welcoming spaces—including the Admissions area, Gift Shop, Playspace and the conservatory.
  • Assist with seasonal exhibits like our popular Butterfly Experience.
  • Support and promote memberships and assist with mailings and promotions.
  • Step in as a tour guide when needed and help guests connect with our living plant collection.
  • Chat with guests and help them find the perfect plant-y gift or souvenir.
  • Assist with restocking, displays, and keeping the shop looking fresh.
  • Handle retail transactions and support inventory and cash management.
  • Work closely with staff, volunteers, vendors, and visitors to keep things running smoothly.
  • Support special events, exhibits, and peak visitor times.
  • Participate in training and learning opportunities.
  • Pitch in where needed—because teamwork makes the gardens grow
  • Maintain flexibility to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and busy seasons.
