About The Position

The Chen Visitor Engagement and Interpretation Internship for the Education Division is an opportunity, funded by the Tianqiao and Chrissy Chen Science Initiative to support students aspiring to work in museums. This opportunity will provide them with hands on experience in a museum setting with professionals in education, where they will gain learn Visitor Engagement and Interpretation, including interaction with both visitors and volunteers. The intern will work alongside other staff in areas of daily operations, as well as research and development of content for a variety of platforms, such as volunteer training materials, in-gallery activities, and audio and tour content for exhibitions. The ideal candidate is proactive, highly organized, and comfortable working in a fast- paced, collaborative environment. This is an 8-10 week, full-time or part-time opportunity, perfect for someone who is interested in pursuing a career in Museum Education, Interpretation, Visitor Engagement, or Volunteer Coordination. Tentative Internship Dates: April 6, 2026 - May 29, 2026 S/he/they will demonstrate a background of working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, geographic and socioeconomic backgrounds, using a welcoming, inclusive, and accessible approach.

Requirements

  • Ability to take and understand direction
  • Conduct research for content development
  • Must be a current university student or recent graduate (1 year max)
  • Must be comfortable engaging with members of different generations
  • Must be computer-proficient, including experience with Power Point
  • Understand how to efficiently conduct and organize research for a variety of audiences and outcomes
  • Must be able to walk around a 135-acre campus.
  • This role consists of both office work on a computer, as well as assisting programing across campus in various weather conditions.
  • Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with research for content development and programming.
  • Help facilitate programming with Visitor Engagement team.
  • Participate in the development of learning experiences for adults, families, and groups for exhibition spaces.
  • Evaluate and observe visitor responses to tours.
  • Collaborate with both Interpretation/Visitor Engagement and Volunteer Office staff.
  • Participate in Internship programming led by the Internship Coordinator.
  • Create and present a final project based on the work done during the 12-week internship.
  • Focus can vary based on strengths and interests, although it will likely be based on observations and evaluation of implemented work in an upcoming exhibition regarding touring models.
  • May perform other related duties as assigned
