About The Position

The performance of OpenMC's particle tracking algorithms rely heavily on efficient ray tracing of constructive solid geometry (CSG) and tessellations of CAD-based geometry. The geometry kernel can support This project will explore avenues for enhancing OpenMC's ray tracing capabilities. This project is somewhat open-ended and will involve exploring anything from implementations of spatial hierarchies in OpenMC itself, to reduced precision ray tracing experimentation in appropriate regions of OpenMC models. Development will likely occur partially in a project supporting a new interface for CAD-based geometry in OpenMC, XDG. C++ programming experience will be important for the purposed of this project.
