Visiting Student - TAPS - Wong, Zachary - 3.31.2026

Argonne National LaboratoryLemont, IL

About The Position

Oscillating heat pipes (OHPs) and advanced thermal management devices exhibit transient, intermittent two-phase flow with phase change, where simplified models often rely on uncertain assumptions. This internship focuses on establishing a reproducible CFD capability, leveraging Argonne’s existing square microchannel condensation setup, to simulate OHP-relevant transient condensation behavior (plug/slug intermittency surrogates and wall wetting or film effects) and perform validation and verification (V&V) against available heat-transfer (HT) experimental data. The CFD outputs will be packaged so they can be used later to evaluate and improve ROM assumptions.
