About The Position

The School of Education at Texas Woman's University (TWU) invites applications for a visiting Assistant Professor of Bilingual Education in the Division of Literacy and Language. Position is expected to begin in January 2026. The School of Education consists of five divisions: Educational Leadership, Special Education, Early Childhood Education, Literacy & Language, and Teacher Education. The position is a full-time, 9-month visiting appointment. Successful applicants must hold a Bilingual Education certification in the state of Texas, hold a PhD in literacy, a master’s degree in bilingual education (or related field), be biliterate in English and Spanish, and have a working knowledge of ways to support and build academic Spanish. The successful candidate must have appreciation for a working in multilingual environments and a commitment to inclusive excellence. Faculty will be expected to: Serve as a faculty member in the Division of Literacy and Language within the School of Education. Teach 4 undergraduate courses per semester using different instructional modes (in person, hybrid, online) as needed. Work with division colleagues to plan curriculum, align courses to state and national standards, and ensure that we meet the needs of our students efficiently and effectively. Participate in divisional, college, and university committees. Support the division’s student recruitment initiatives for the Bilingual/ESL undergraduate program. Interview potential bilingual students to determine Spanish language proficiency to meet the bilingual certification exams. Attend local bilingual/ESL gathering events in the metroplex including BEAM. Embrace a data-driven approach to instruction, program evaluation, and decision making. Advise and mentor bilingual/ESL students. Including those in the BESO student organization.

Requirements

  • PhD or EdD, in Bilingual Education, Literacy or closely related field.
  • Biliterate in English and Spanish.
  • A minimum of 3 years of Bilingual education experience at either the K-12 level or higher education level.
  • University teaching experience
  • Potential for advising bilingual/ESL students.
  • Experience integrating technology in educational settings and willingness to implement virtual teaching simulations.
  • Ability to mentor undergraduate bilingual students with research projects and dissertations.
  • Ability to provide test preparation workshops for each of the tests taken by bilingual/ ESL candidates.
  • Capacity to engage in community/university partnerships.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience integrating immersive technologies in the classroom with emphasis on augmented and virtual reality.
  • Experience integrating virtual teaching simulations.
  • Demonstrated experience teaching, mentoring, and advising non-traditional students and being sensitive to their educational needs.
  • Documented evidence of working with communities of varied backgrounds.
