The Education Department invites applications for a one-year Visiting Assistant Professor of Education with a focus on Elementary Literacy (grades 1-6). This faculty member will teach courses that lead to New York State Elementary Certification, grades 1-6. We seek an individual with a strong commitment to promoting socially just, equitable, inclusive, and critically transformative learning environments. The teaching load is five courses per year. The courses to be taught include a year-long literacy development course for students in grades 1-6. This course is typically held at a local elementary school and the instructor supervises the students' literacy teaching with children. In addition to this course, the instructor will teach our introductory course, Issues in Contemporary Education (both spring and fall semester) and one course of their design based on their interests and expertise. The Education Department offers not only teacher certification, but also a major and correlate (minor) in Educational Studies. We seek a colleague with interests that engage critical theoretical perspectives.
