The Department of Modern Languages. Literatures, and Cultures of Goucher College is seeking a Visiting Assistant Professor for a one-year position in its Transnational French Studies program, starting in fall 2026. Applicants must have native or near-native command of French and excellent teaching skills. Responsibilities include teaching courses in French language (at all levels), literature, and culture of the French speaking world. Applicants must have a Ph.D. in French Studies or a related field by the time of appointment; area of specialty is open. Applicants with a strong generalist background particularly encouraged. The ideal candidate will show a commitment to undergraduate education and demonstrate an ability for effective teaching at a liberal arts college. The position is a one-year, non-tenure-track appointment beginning in August 2026 and has a teaching load of 6 courses for the 2026-2027 academic year. Applicants are required to submit (1) a curriculum vita, (2) a cover letter, (3) a statement of teaching philosophy which speaks to the applicant’s pedagogical approaches to instruction, classroom practices and strategies, relevant teaching experience, and ability to teach to students from a wide range of backgrounds in a liberal arts college setting, 4) an idea for a special topics course based on their interests and areas of expertise, and (5) a statement of research interests.
