About The Position

Warren Wilson College in Asheville, North Carolina, welcomes applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor of Creative Nonfiction for the 2026–27 academic year. The Department of Creative Writing is a dynamic and supportive learning community, with a focus on revision, research, and ethical issues within the discipline, as well as experimentation with form, genre, and style. The mission of the Creative Writing major is to provide opportunities for students to create original work and to expand their understanding of contemporary literature within a community of creative writers. This is a 10-month teaching position with an anticipated start date of August 1, 2026, and an end date of May 31, 2027, with a possibility of a one-year renewal. Requirements

  • MFA and/or PhD in creative writing. ABD will be considered.
  • Evidence of experience and excellence in teaching undergraduates.
  • Experience with literary magazines.
  • Demonstrated experience with advancing diversity, equity and inclusion in learning spaces. For instance, experience incorporating inclusive teaching modalities and working with diverse student populations (e.g., racial/ethnic, income, immigration status, sexual orientation/gender identification, etc.).

Nice To Haves

  • One or more years of teaching experience in creative writing.
  • Evidence of experiential and applied learning pedagogy.

Responsibilities

  • Teach a 3-3 load including three sections of the introductory creative nonfiction course Forms and Theories in Creative Nonfiction
  • one section of Advanced Creative Nonfiction Workshop
  • one section of our Literary Magazine History and Editing course
  • one other creative writing course as needed in the department
  • Participate in departmental meetings and events as available.
