About The Position

The Visiting Assistant Professor of Graphic Design will work in close partnership with the Director of Graphic Design to support the leadership, continuity, and continued excellence of DADAH’s Graphic Design program and its associated certificates. This position contributes to program visibility and sustained advancement during a period of ongoing development and opportunity. The role will expand and enhance an innovative curriculum in areas such as Motion Graphics, UX/UI, and other emerging fields in digital design, while also supporting the development of online and remote learning initiatives that broaden access and strengthen program reach. In addition to teaching, the Visiting Assistant Professor will contribute to departmental initiatives including Foundations courses, summer offerings, advising, portfolio reviews, internships, assessment, and other service activities that support student success and professional readiness. The position is expected to engage with evolving industry practices and emerging technologies in digital design and education, ensuring the program remains current, relevant, and aligned with professional standards and creative innovation.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, After Effects)
  • Strong typography, layout, and visual communication skills
  • Experience with UX/UI tools (e.g., Figma) and digital design workflows
  • Basic understanding of web design (HTML/CSS preferred)
  • Knowledge of print and digital production processes
  • MFA (or equivalent) in Graphic Design or related field
  • University-level teaching experience

Responsibilities

  • Teach and support a range of courses within the Graphic Design curriculum, including digital Visualization, Type Dialogue, Design Theory, Professional Practice, and topics courses such as UX/UI and Type in Motion.
  • Contribute to both studio and foundations-level instruction.
  • Support student development across all stages of the program.
  • Mentor students.
  • Assist with portfolio development.
  • Prepare student work for annual exhibitions and showcases.
  • Participate in academic advising, student reviews, and assessment process.
  • Support recruitment and outreach efforts.
  • Participate in departmental events and exhibitions.
  • Contribute to student organizations such as the AIGA student chapter.
  • Assist with lab operations.
  • Support program initiatives as needed.
