About The Position

The Illinois Department of Public Health is seeking a highly motivated and experienced individual to serve as the Hepatitis Epidemiologist. Under the direction of the TB/Viral Hepatitis Section Chief, develops and designs analytical studies of highly complex statewide surveillance data, creates annual reports and other surveillance reports. Provides surveillance analytic, and research expertise to the Hepatitis program for use in program development, implementation, monitoring, evaluation and hepatitis elimination. Requirements

  • Requires a Bachelor’s degree in public health, registered nursing, microbiology, sociology, anthropology, veterinary medicine, biology, psychology, chemistry, epidemiology, or a related field
  • Requires four (4) years of professional experience in communicable disease or infectious disease surveillance and/or control programs at the local, state or federal level.
  • Requires the ability to travel in the performance of duties.
  • Requires appropriate, valid driver’s license.

Nice To Haves

  • A Master’s degree in epidemiology or informatics.
  • Thorough knowledge of STI/HIV epidemiology, advanced statistical methods including logistical regression and GIS (Global Information Systems) analysis, and software used in epidemiologic analysis, including SAS and Microsoft Access software.
  • Three (3) years experience providing epidemiologic consultation on tuberculosis or viral hepatitis.
  • Three (3) years experience planning or conducting epidemiological investigations, studies or survey to monitor tuberculosis or viral hepatitis outbreaks or trends.
  • One (1) year experience analyzing administrative problems and adopt an effective course of action.
  • One (1) year experience maintaining cooperative working relationships, especially with community members.
  • One (1) year experience in applied epidemiology, informatics, or related research field.

Responsibilities

  • Provides epidemiologic consultation to the Tuberculosis and Viral Hepatitis programs.
  • Plans and conducts epidemiological investigations, studies, or surveys to monitor tends among various target populations with tuberculosis and viral hepatitis and to monitor outbreaks and trends.
  • Participates in the dissemination of research findings, the application and translation of best practices to disease prevention and intervention activities, assists with grant writing, implementation, and compliance with grant objectives.
  • Participates in the annual development of federal grant applications through the provision of data relative to need, determining program performance measures, and setting performance targets for monitoring and evaluation.
  • Prepares and presents summaries form literature reviews, data analyses, and study results for Department and public presentation.
  • Provides epidemiological surge support for the Office of Disease Control.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
