About The Position

The Village Assistant Director of Residence Life plays a pivotal role in fostering a vibrant, inclusive, and supportive residential community within the university setting. This position is responsible for overseeing the daily operations and strategic initiatives of the Village residential area, ensuring a safe and engaging living environment that promotes student development and success. The Assistant Director collaborates closely with students, staff, and campus partners to implement programs that enhance community building, conflict resolution, and student leadership opportunities. This role requires a proactive approach to crisis management, policy enforcement, and continuous assessment of residence life services to meet evolving student needs. Ultimately, the Assistant Director contributes to creating a residential experience that supports academic achievement, personal growth, and a strong sense of belonging for all residents.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
  • At least two years of experience in residence life or student affairs in a higher education setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and lead student staff effectively.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a commitment to diversity and inclusion.
  • Experience with crisis intervention and conflict resolution.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, Counseling, or a related field.
  • Experience working in a residential community similar in size and complexity to the Village.
  • Knowledge of current trends and best practices in residence life and student development.
  • Proficiency with student information systems and residence life management software.
  • Experience in program assessment and data-driven decision making.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and supervise residence life staff, including Resident Advisors and graduate assistants, providing training, support, and performance evaluations.
  • Develop and implement educational and social programs that promote community engagement, diversity, and student well-being within the Village.
  • Respond to and resolve student conduct issues, emergencies, and conflicts in accordance with university policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with campus departments such as counseling services, campus safety, and academic affairs to support holistic student development.
  • Oversee administrative functions including budgeting, facility management, and data collection to inform continuous improvement of residence life operations.
