Reporting to the HHS Chief Communications Officer, the Video Services manager is a hands-on leader who writes scripts, edits footage, creates motion graphics, and supervises staff who produce agencywide and public-facing video and photography content. This role requires an innovative professional capable of juggling multiple projects, maintaining meticulous attention to detail, consistently meeting tight deadlines, and seamlessly adapting to evolving priorities and last-minute changes. This is an Austin-area, in-studio position with limited telework that requires a willingness to work evenings, weekends and overtime when necessary. Within the application, applicant must include one or more links to a demo reel that highlights broadcast-quality video work. Final candidates may be required to complete a videography and motion graphics test.

Requirements

  • Ability to work closely with management to develop and execute visual storytelling that aligns with and advances agency objectives.
  • Ability to direct the day-to-day supervision of four video-production staff, and ability to maintain comprehensive oversight and real-time access to all active projects.
  • Ability to ensure adherence to project deadlines, and utilization of unit database, server and YouTube channels to track, archive and distribute work.
  • Skill in writing scripts and supporting production documents, ability to collaborate with editorial team to confirm content adheres to agency brand, and skill in operating a teleprompter.
  • Knowledge and ability to manage production setups and coordinate equipment transport and crew travel to off-site shoots.
  • Skill in capturing HD and 4K video using professional-grade cameras, audio and lighting equipment for studio and on-location productions.
  • Skill in editing footage and creating motion graphics—including chroma-key compositing, opening title sequences, lower-third name supers and end credits—using Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects, Photoshop and Illustrator.
  • Ability to oversee studio and control room, skill in maintaining equipment security, ability to perform regular inventory checks, and ability to ensure proper care and organization of production gear.
  • Skill in evaluating third-party video submissions and skill in maintaining awareness of evolving editing software and emerging video-production trends.
  • Ability to perform other video-production duties as assigned.
  • An undergraduate degree in communications or related discipline.
  • Minimum five years of experience capturing HD and 4K video, using professional-grade cameras, audio and lighting equipment for studio and on-location field productions.
  • Minimum five years of experience editing video and creating motion graphics using Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects, Photoshop and Illustrator.
  • Minimum three years of experience directly supervising video-production personnel.
  • Minimum three years of experience writing scripts and supporting video-production documents.

Responsibilities
