About The Position

Under general supervision of the Department Manager, the Video Lab Manager will serve as supervisor of the Video facilities, which includes the sound stage, insert stage, lab stage, post production lab, and equipment office. This role will provide management to the daily operation of the facilities, including maintenance of equipment and inventory, check-out and tracking system, purchasing, applicable service and recommendation of related instructional equipment, materials and supplies, preparation and monitoring budget, projection, maintenance of proper controls and safety standards. The lab manager will provide hands-on assistance to faculty, staff, and students on various video productions and installations. This role will provide supervision of video facility student staff. This position is an 100% time 12-month career position.

Requirements

  • Experience in video production, basic sound stage operations, and management. Superb communication, analytical and organizational skills.
  • Ability to explain technical concepts clearly in verbal and written form and produce concise technical documentation, proposals, budgets, and reports.
  • Ability to make oral presentations to teach groups of students and faculty safety procedures and proper use of laboratory equipment and facilities. Ability to explain technical concepts, train facility staff and end-users, maintain excellent working relationships with faculty, students, and staff.
  • Ability to supervise students to insure the safe and proper use of equipment, machinery tools, materials and processes, including the supervision of student-performed clean-up and maintenance.
  • Skill in supervising student personnel including delegation of responsibility, training organization of work schedules, verifying time sheets and evaluating job performance.
  • Ability to assert authority to maintain safety standards and procedures including a clean and safe working environment, as well as protect against improper and deleterious use of equipment and facilities.
  • Knowledge and ability to maintain, service and repair, or cause to be serviced and repaired by others, the tools, equipment and facilities in the video facility.
  • Ability to perform effectively with frequent interruptions, fluctuating workloads and competing needs of students, staff and faculty.
  • Experience managing operational budgets, inventory control system and financial resources.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills and the ability to work effectively with CTSA faculty and students in the development and conceptualization of their artistic projects.
  • Two years experience in a business management, film production, video or audio production facility or related setting to acquire skills necessary to coordinate operational activities of a filmmaking facilities.
  • Advanced technical expertise in video editing, film production and recording software and equipment. Knowledge of audio, video, and web production (e.g. Adobe Premiere Pro, etc).
  • Demonstrated experience in working in, installing software, and maintaining MAC OS operating systems.
  • Demonstrated experience and technical knowledge in Genie operation, ladder safety, Fresnel Kinoflo, LED lighting, grid and safety cabling, Bates style systems, Edison style systems, proper use of C-stands and knowledge using OHM’s Law and calculation of total AMPS.
  • Experience using personal computers (PC & Mac) and software (MS Word and Excel).
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in digital filmmaking

  • Working knowledge of University forms and procedures as they relate to purchasing, inventory, maintenance and service, and other duties as needed.
