This position is involved in the hands-on, day-to-day technical work associated with the ATXN TV operation. With seven studios, eight control rooms, remote facilities and nearly non-stop productions, your skills in operation and innovation will be tested on a daily basis. Under general supervision, performs technical work in the production of creative and non-creative video and audio presentations for training, communications, and public information.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of media production, communication, and dissemination techniques and methods, including alternative ways to inform and entertain via written, oral, and visual media.

  • Knowledge of City practice, policy, and procedures.
  • Skill in handling multiple tasks and prioritizing.
  • Skill in working with Electronic News-Gathering (ENG) cameras.

  • Skill in data analysis and problem solving.
  • Skill in controlling operations of equipment or systems.
  • Skill in using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
  • Ability to work with frequent interruptions and changes in priorities.
  • Ability to use non-linear editing systems.

  • Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Radio-TV-Film (RTVF), Electrical Engineering, and Telecommunications or in a field related to the job, plus two (2) years of experience in a field related to the job.
  • Experience may substitute for education up to four (4) years.
  • Valid Texas Class C Driver License.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of current and next generation digital television architecture, equipment and standards including encoders/decoders, routers, automation systems, Ross switchers, Xpression graphics, Calrec audio system, Sony PTZ remote cameras, and networking equipment
  • Experience serving as field engineer for live remote news conferences, remote productions, and/or events
  • Ability to run production equipment (PTZ cameras, switcher, audio mixer, graphics) for coverage of live meetings as needed
  • Familiarity with broadcast control software, asset management tools, and editing software
  • Prior work in TV studio or control room

Responsibilities

  • Confers with clients to determine program needs, identify production options, assist with script development, and determine overall program content.
  • Conceptualizes, designs, and coordinates the production of video and audio programs to be used in training and staff development, public information and education presentations, promotional programs, and internal and external informational productions.
  • Determines video production equipment needs and makes recommendation for purchases.
  • Sets up, hauls, loads, and unloads equipment; operates cameras, lighting equipment, teleprompters, microphones, and other audio equipment; and monitors and adjusts equipment during taping sessions.
  • Shoots and edits video, selects music, designs digital video effects, and creates graphics in order to create a finished product using editing systems and equipment.
  • Writes, either individually or as a member of a team, and edits scripts for video and audio productions.
  • Duplicates and distributes video and audio programs on various media formats to department employees, the general public, the media, and other stakeholders.
  • Coordinates complicated projects, sometimes including multiple departments.
  • Maintains, repairs, and troubleshoots equipment.
  • May train other staff on best practices in video production.
  • Provides leadership, work assignments, evaluation, and guidance to others.
