About The Position

AbelCine is a leading provider of equipment, technology and production services for the film, broadcast and media industries. We partner closely with studios, networks, brands and content creators to support high-end production workflows across the country. We are currently seeking a freelance Video Engineer to support one of our Los Angeles–based clients, working on podcast and video productions in a studio and remote environment. This role is engaged through AbelCine and may involve ongoing, as-needed support depending on production schedules. Role Overview The Video Engineer will be responsible for supporting multi-camera podcast and video productions, including camera systems, video switching, streaming/recording workflows, lighting control, and monitoring. This role focuses strictly on video engineering and production — no audio engineering experience is required.

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Video Engineer, Video Technician, or Broadcast/Streaming Engineer
  • Strong hands-on experience with professional video equipment and studio workflows
  • Comfortable troubleshooting and working independently in live or recorded environments
  • Experience supporting podcast, studio, or talk-show-style productions
  • Based in or able to work in Los Angeles, CA
  • Availability for freelance / as-needed scheduling

Responsibilities

  • Operate and manage PTZ (Pan-Tilt-Zoom) cameras, including remote-controlled Sony systems
  • Configure camera framing, exposure, and basic color setup for studio and podcast environments
  • Operate video switchers, including Ross Carbonite
  • Manage streaming and capture workflows using encoders such as Teradek, Matrox, and Magewell
  • Configure video routing using Blackmagic and AJA routers
  • Set up and manage studio lighting
  • Operate remote lighting control systems to ensure consistent on-camera results
  • Support live and recorded productions using: vMix, OBS Studio, Wirecast, Ecamm Live (Mac)
  • Support remote recording and streaming platforms: Riverside.fm, SquadCast, Zoom, StreamYard
  • Operate teleprompter software such as PromptSmart and Teleprompter Premium
  • Configure and monitor feeds using: Reference monitors (Blackmagic Video Assist, Atomos Ninja), Broadcast monitors (Sony, Flanders Scientific), Multiviewers (Decimator, Blackmagic)
  • Manage media storage workflows using NAS/media servers (e.g., AJA Kumo Media Servers)
  • Work with high-speed SSDs (AJA, Samsung T7, SanDisk Extreme Pro)
  • Support networking needs for NDI workflows
  • Set up tripods, camera mounts, and studio hardware
  • Handle cabling (SDI, HDMI, XLR, USB-C)
  • Support studio accessories including boom arms, shock mounts, acoustic panels, and green screens/backdrops
