The North Carolina Department of Public Safety has an internship opportunity with Victims Compensation Services for the Summer of 2026. Victims Compensation Services reimburses citizens who suffer medical expenses and lost wages as a result of being an innocent victim of a crime committed in North Carolina. Victims of rape, assault, child sexual abuse, domestic violence and drunk driving, as well as the families of homicide victims, are eligible to apply for financial help. This internship opportunity will allow students to: • Learn the Victims Compensation Services (VCS) Programs • Become knowledgeable of the policies and statutes that govern the program services provided • Train in program operations to aid in the ability to engage in research and outreach • Learn the intake, investigation, examination, processes and become acknowledgeable about Commission Meetings • Research community-based organizations supporting underserved populations (African-American/Black citizens, families, males, rural areas, Hispanic and Asian Communities/Organizations) directly impacting these communities to provide information and awareness of the VCS Programs The student will function as a Claims & Outreach Process Intern. Specific responsibilities will include outreach, telephone calls (incoming/outgoing), investigate and examine claims, data entry, process mail, filing, faxing, and research. Ideal applicants will possess the ability to interpret and apply statutes; active listening skills; excellent communication skills; good organizational skills; excellent writing skills; and the ability to follow directions. This internship is expected to start on May 18, 2026, and continue through July 24, 2026. The work schedule is part-time (up to 30 hours per week), Monday -Friday. The rate of pay is $18.00 per hour.
