About The Position

The ideal candidate to fill this position is a Senior Structural Engineer that is confident in their ability as a structural engineer in the industrial sector, complex structures, and integrated steel delivery process for fast-paced project delivery needs. This person would be a client executive type design lead professional for certain projects, work with both internal and external teams to deliver projects that meet the objectives of the client. Business Development and early project development is also vitally important and working with other structural team members within the overall company to build project teams and support the clients’ daily needs. These activities may include developing an action plan to solicit and secure new work, write multidisciplinary engineering project proposals, implementation of goals, objectives, and priorities for the Structural team, supporting the overall Engineering team initiatives, and identifying prospective markets and clients, etc. The primary goal of this role will be to create a synergistic approach to large complex projects between the Nashville office that is predominantly MEP focused, and the Axiom structural team based out of Boise, ID. Success in the role can best be described to be a key part of growing our structural design services in a way that allows the Axiom team to expand team into a more National reaching level, adding resources in Nashville that directly report to this VP -Structural position.

Requirements

  • Advanced Structural Analysis and Design Expertise: Mastery in analyzing complex structures under various loads (e.g., seismic, wind, and gravity) using principles of mechanics, physics, and finite element methods to design resilient industrial buildings and utility structures. Strong experience in developing structural design packages from a conceptual to IFC level for various project types.
  • Proficiency in Engineering Software and Tools: Skilled use of CAD, BIM, and analysis software like AutoCAD, Revit, Tekla, and other engineering tools for modeling, simulation, and optimization of designs in commercial and industrial contexts.
  • In-Depth Knowledge of Codes, Standards, and Regulations: Comprehensive understanding of building codes (e.g., IBC, ASCE 7), industry standards, and local regulations for safety, durability, and compliance in AEC projects, including those for utility conveyance in high-risk environments.
  • Project Management and Leadership Abilities: Leading projects with multidisciplinary teams, overseeing budgets, schedules, and project delivery while acting as the engineer of record on certain projects, ensuring seamless coordination in consulting environments for large-scale industrial and commercial facilities. A history of mentorship of other engineers/designers in teaching and training critical thinking skills, industry standards, and practical engineering applications.
  • Strong Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to evaluate complex problems, optimize designs for efficiency, and innovate solutions for challenges like material stresses or site-specific constraints in utility structures.
  • Excellent Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Effectively conveying technical concepts to clients, architects, contractors, and stakeholders, including negotiation and conflict resolution in AEC collaborations.
  • Knowledge of Construction Materials and Practices: Expertise in selecting and applying materials like steel, concrete, and composites, considering sustainability, cost, and performance for industrial buildings and conveyance systems. Also familiar with coordinating closely with delegated vendor packages common with pre-engineered structural steel systems.
  • Attention to Detail and Risk Assessment: Meticulous review of designs to identify potential failures, conduct risk evaluations, and ensure serviceability, strength, and durability in structures exposed to environmental hazards. Ability to read, understand, and review vendor shop drawings and providing ownership guidance for constructability and implementation.
  • Commitment to Safety and Sustainability: Integrating safety protocols, hazard mitigation, and eco-friendly practices (e.g., energy-efficient designs) to meet modern AEC demands for resilient industrial and utility infrastructure.
  • Adaptability and Continuous Learning: Staying current with emerging technologies, industry trends, and innovations (e.g., AI in design or advanced materials), while adapting to diverse project types in the AEC community.
  • B.S. in Structural Engineering or equivalent.
  • 15+ years of work experience with complex structural systems in the industrial and commercial sectors.
  • Registered Professional and/or Structural Engineering license.
  • Experience with Revit.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills are essential for team-based projects.
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills required for simultaneous project schedules.
  • Highly motivated, proactive, and willing to take on new challenges.
  • Willing to travel.
