About The Position

This position is responsible for leading the Sales Execution and Commercial Strategy related to the North America Telecom Business Unit. This role leads the commercial organization responsible for revenue growth, strategic account development, and market expansion. The role also influences groups in a matrix organization which drives sales activities and results. Other peer functions include Product Line Management, Engineering, Marketing, Operations, Finance, Human Resources, Legal, and any other activities necessary for the successful development and achievement of the overall strategic goals and objectives.

Requirements

  • Preferred Bachelor’s Degree with 10+ years of relevant experience or Associates Degree with 12+ years relevant experience or 15+ years of relevant experience.
  • At least five (5) years of experience in a sales management position with increasing levels of account and territory management responsibilities.
  • Experience with managing rep firms.
  • Understanding of Account Segmentation, SWOT, Stakeholder Analysis, and developing account strategy.
  • Experience with Value Added selling.
  • Demonstrated leadership, commercial competencies, cross-functional team building and communication skills.
  • Prior relevant industry experience and relationships, and a proven ability to build and influence relationships to drive business results.
  • Frequent travel required.

Responsibilities

  • Follow overall direction set by the VP GM in developing primary goals, operating plans, policies, and specific short- and long-range objectives of the business.
  • Lead and develop commercial organization, ensuring the sales structure, account coverage, and market engagement model support the business unit’s growth objectives.
  • Provide leadership to the commercial organization through structured management processes including forecasting, pipeline management, and strategic account planning.
  • Responsible for determining commercial resource requirements, training needs and internal control procedures that address relevant objectives. Make recommendations on controls, monitor their application with process and provide accountability to senior management for responsibilities in internal control.
  • Maintain appropriate professional competencies and evaluate the capacity, staffing levels, and competency of the functional area’s personnel. Ensure that reporting staff also maintains professional competencies, certifications and or licenses that are a requirement of their position. Provide training and development opportunities to direct reports, as appropriate.
  • Heavily participate in the development of the overall Strategic Plan and the development and implementation of specific operational plans to compliment the overall strategic plan. Continuously assess market trends, competitive dynamics, and customer demand to inform commercial strategy and business planning.
  • Partner with Marketing and Product Line Management to align market strategy, product positioning, and commercial execution. Provide customer and market insight to support product, development priorities, and ensure alignment between product strategy and commercial opportunity.
  • Direct the business unit to develop and achieve an operational plan and the necessary implementation of such plans in order to achieve the specific operational goals developed from the overall corporate strategic plan. Continuously monitor & review the effectiveness of the Telecom product categories in meeting the developed goals and objectives described above.
  • Monitor the effectiveness of managerial personnel within the Telecom business unit and recommend changes or either personnel or organizational structure as necessary. Represent Valmont in meetings with Customers, and other technical and professional organizations for the purpose of promoting Valmont as a viable and competent supplier in the industry and a technology leader in the products produced.
  • Continuously evaluate current Telecom manufacturing methods and procedures with recommendations as necessary for changes and improvements that improve product quality, lower manufacturing costs, improve production capacity/efficiency, or enhance personal safety.
  • Continuously evaluate current Telecom engineering design methods and procedures with recommendations as necessary for changes and improvements as necessary for changes and improvements that lead to more efficient designs, lower cost designs, or more reliable designs.
  • Continuously evaluate and improve the effectiveness of our internal sales management teams as well as of our contracted representatives and distribution partners through objective metrics and tools.
