About The Position

For nearly 80 years, Boys & Girls Clubs of Sonoma-Marin (BGCSM) has empowered young people through opportunity, equity, and safe, high-quality programs. As we expand our reach, we seek a Vice President of Resource Development who sees fundraising as movement-building and donor partnerships as pathways to transforming lives. This leader will elevate BGCSM’s visibility, deepen community connections, and steward a philanthropic program that fuels youth impact for years to come. Reporting to the CEO, the Vice President of Resource Development will design and execute a comprehensive fundraising strategy, generating $5M+ annually and building a sustainable donor pipeline for future initiatives. This role blends strategic oversight with hands-on donor engagement, requiring a leader adept at cultivating major gifts, guiding a team, and inspiring board participation. The VP will also oversee BGCSM’s signature fundraising and stewardship events to ensure meaningful donor experiences and strong net revenue.

Requirements

  • Proven success securing major gifts ($100K–$1M+).
  • Experience leading or contributing to $5M+ campaigns.
  • Ability to manage and mentor a high-performing team.
  • Strong strategic planning, donor stewardship, and storytelling skills.
  • Deep understanding of philanthropic strategy and donor behavior.
  • Strong relationship-building, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to manage complex projects and deliver measurable outcomes.
  • Proficiency with donor databases and digital marketing tools.
  • High integrity, discretion, and organizational leadership capability.
  • Bachelor’s degree; Master’s preferred.
  • 12+ years of relevant experience with demonstrated success in major gifts and leadership.
  • Personal vehicle, valid driver's license and auto insurance strongly preferred.
  • Applicants must be able to successfully perform the essential physical functions of this position with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and or move up to 50 lbs.
  • Sufficient strength, agility and mobility to perform essential functions of position.
  • Requires ability to walk, sit, stand, bend, squat, pull/push, grasp up to 4-8 hours per day.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in nonprofit, philanthropy, youth development, community impact, or mission-driven for-profit sectors.
  • Familiarity with capital campaigns, major donor relations, and brand positioning.

Responsibilities

  • Philanthropic Strategy & Revenue Growth: Lead multi-year fundraising strategy across annual, major, corporate, foundation, and legacy giving. Maintain diversified revenue streams and accurate forecasts. Provide regular updates to the CEO and Board.
  • Donor Engagement & Storytelling: Manage a portfolio of high-capacity donors; cultivate, solicit, and steward relationships. Strengthen donor retention and long-term engagement. Craft compelling narratives that inspire investment in BGCSM’s mission.
  • Event Strategy & Execution: Oversee all fundraising and donor-stewardship events. Ensure events reflect BGCSM’s mission, elevate donor experience, and contribute strong net revenue. Integrate event engagement into overall donor strategy.
  • Board & Community Leadership: Partner with CEO and Board to recruit and engage high-impact donors. Lead key board committees and support governance best practices. Build relationships with community leaders and advisory groups.
  • Team Leadership: Lead, mentor, and develop the Resource Development team. Implement systems and tools that support efficient fundraising operations. Foster a culture of accountability, equity, excellence, and collaboration.
  • Lead all fundraising, donor relations, and stewardship efforts.
  • Manage all giving streams: individual, corporate, foundation, major, legacy, and events.
  • Partner with Marketing on donor communications, messaging, and media visibility.
  • Recruit, coach, and develop the Resource Development team.
