About The Position

Reporting directly to the President & CEO, the Vice President of Resource Development/ Chief Development Officer (CRO/CDO) provides strategic leadership and management for all fundraising and resource development efforts for Boys & Girls Clubs of Tucson, a $6M organization. This position is responsible for designing and implementing a comprehensive resource development strategy aligned with the organization's mission, goals, and long-term strategic plan. The VP of Resource Development will cultivate relationships with individual donors, foundations, corporate partners, and public funding sources, while overseeing major gifts, annual giving, capital campaigns, planned giving, and sponsorship programs. This role is guided by the Boys & Girls Clubs of America's "9 You Need RD Continuum" and ensures that resource development strategies reflect best practices, promote organizational sustainability, and build a culture of philanthropy throughout the organization. The VP of Resource Development I CDO serves as a trusted partner to the CEO, Board of Directors, and senior leadership team, and champions the mission of empowering youth through impactful programs and community engagement.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, business administration, marketing, communications, or related field (Master’s degree preferred).
  • Minimum 7–10 years of progressively responsible leadership experience in fundraising/resource development; nonprofit sector experience strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated success in major gifts, foundation/corporate relations, and annual giving programs.
  • Knowledge of fundraising best practices, donor cultivation strategies, and philanthropic trends.
  • Strong leadership, coaching, and team management skills.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Track record of building relationships with diverse stakeholders, including boards, donors, volunteers, and community partners.
  • Must meet the requirements to drive for the organization, including being at least 21 years of age, holding a valid driver’s license with a good driving record, and consistent access to a motor vehicle with required insurance coverage.

Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership & Planning. Develop and execute a comprehensive resource development strategy aligned with organizational priorities and the BGCA 9 RD Continuum. Provide leadership and guidance to staff and the Board on fundraising initiatives, trends, and best practices.
  • Major Gifts & Individual Giving. Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward major donors and prospects. Create personalized engagement strategies that deepen donor commitment and increase philanthropic investment.
  • Annual Giving & Membership Campaigns. Oversee annual giving campaigns and other recurring donor programs, ensuring measurable growth in donor participation and revenue.
  • Foundation, Corporate, and Government Funding. Develop and maintain relationships with foundations, corporations, and public funding sources. Lead proposal writing, reporting, and relationship management to secure funding aligned with organizational goals.
  • Planned Giving & Legacy Programs. Develop and implement strategies for planned giving, endowments, and legacy gifts to ensure long-term financial sustainability.
  • Board Engagement & Volunteer Leadership. Partner with the Board of Directors to develop resource development goals, identify prospects, and engage board members in fundraising initiatives.
  • Resource Development Staff Leadership. Recruit, manage, and mentor resource development staff. Build a high-performing, mission-driven team with clear roles, responsibilities, and measurable outcomes.
  • Donor Stewardship & Recognition. Ensure timely, meaningful acknowledgment and stewardship of all donors, recognizing their contributions in ways that strengthen long-term relationships.
  • Data, Metrics, and Performance Management. Implement and oversee systems for donor management, prospect tracking, and performance measurement. Use data to inform strategy and report progress to leadership and the Board.
