About The Position

Under administrative direction, this position is responsible for the management of the company's risk mitigation programs, including claims processing, as well as the structure, design, and procurement of the insurance and risk financing programs across all areas of the company's exposures. This role also collaborates in establishing and promoting the company's enterprise risk management practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Risk Management, or related field with 15 years Auto/General Liability Claims, Insurance, Risk Management, or relevant experience with at least 10 years of which being direct management experience
  • Demonstration of the following skills and abilities through education, certifications, military, or other experiences
  • Travel required up to 25% of the time
  • International travel required on occasion; must have valid passport and be permitted to travel outside of the United States
  • Ability to read and understand insurance policies and policy terms/language
  • Ability to understand risk financing options and accounting principles
  • Ability to understand legal contractual terms
  • Ability to understand claims and litigation strategy and process
  • Ability to uphold a professional demeanor in all interactions, demonstrating empathy and patience in the face of challenging situations
  • Ability to accurately analyze situations and reach productive decisions based on informed judgment
  • Ability to adapt to a dynamic work environment and shifting priorities and directives
  • Ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas through various mediums
  • Ability to work with a variety of individuals and groups in a constructive and collaborative manner

Nice To Haves

  • Auto/general liability, cargo and workers' comp claims, insurance, or risk management experience in the transportation industry
  • Certified Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) certification
  • Experience in managing Claims or Litigation teams within the Transportation or Insurance industry
  • Experience in managing large claims volume programs, including complex claims matter management systems
  • Ability to maintain composure under pressure
  • Ability to type at least 30 words-per-minute
  • Knowledge of claim investigation procedures
  • Knowledge of approaches and techniques for recognizing, anticipating, and resolving problems
  • Proficiency in documenting case details accurately and assessing payment eligibility

Responsibilities

  • Utilizes personal skills and independent knowledge to build relationships within the insurance underwriting community to promote positive structure and design of cost effective insurance programs
  • Utilizes personal skills and industry knowledge to build effective relationships with national insurance broker practices to ensure the most favorable insurance markets, structures, and pricing are being utilized; including, but not limited to, managing multiple insurance brokers across various lines of coverage
  • Utilizes personal skills and industry knowledge to build effective relationships with industry peers to remain updated of evolving industry topics and matters that can effect insurance, claims, and risk programs
  • Utilizes personal knowledge and experience to effectively manage teams to ensure protection of the company's assets, employees, and shareholders in a legal and fair manner, while ensuring all claims are handled according to insurance policy guidelines
  • Oversees accurate and up-to-date reserving levels for all claims exposures against the company
  • Partners closely with the company's CFO and finance teams to ensure proper accounting of risk financing programs
  • Confers with Executive leadership and Board of Directors regularly, advising on potential material company exposures and mitigation efforts combatting these exposures
  • Affirms business unit leadership is fully informed of all financial exposures relevant to their areas of responsibility and provides strategic guidance on the development and implementation of mitigation frameworks to address associated risks
  • Utilizes independent knowledge in working with business-unit-level operations to identify and assist in development of programs designed to mitigate risk and financial exposure
  • Utilizes independent knowledge in working with legal and procurement teams to evaluate and negotiate acceptable contractual risk mitigation and insurance terms
  • Utilizes strong negotiations skills in insurance procurement/policy adjustments and claims and litigation scenarios
  • Utilizes interpersonal skills in influencing others outside and within the organization, fostering alignment and driving optimal outcomes
