The Vice President, Health Economics & External Affairs is responsible for leading the external scientific, economic, and strategic validation of the organization’s clinical programs. This role ensures that clinical initiatives are supported by rigorous evidence generation, health economic analysis, and outcomes research, and that their impact is effectively communicated through publications, case studies, and industry engagement.

Requirements

  • MD, PharmD, PhD Degree or equivalent; plus 15 years’ related experience; 15 years of SME in respective area(s) such as health economics, outcomes research, clinical strategy; (or equivalent combination of education and experience); and 12 years supervisory experience; Supervisory experience may be substituted with 12 years of MedImpact experience plus an appropriate external leadership training program and internal mentorship with a seasoned leader at the Vice President level or above that must be completed within 12 months in new position.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and familiarity with health economics, outcomes research, and analytics tools.
  • Licensed MD, PharmD
  • Demonstrable ability to synthesize complex clinical and economic data into clear strategic insights to inform the business
  • Demonstrated strength in executive presence and credibility with industry stakeholders
  • Strategic thinker with attention to scientific rigor and execution of deliverables.
  • Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Ability to comprehend and apply principles of advanced calculus, modern algebra, and advanced statistical theory.
  • Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.
  • Ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on controversial or complex topics to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
  • Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and execution of a comprehensive health economics and outcomes research (HEOR) strategy to demonstrate the clinical and economic value of programs and services.
  • Design and oversee economic models, real world evidence studies, and value assessments that validate clinical outcomes, ROI, and population impact.
  • Translate economic and outcomes insights into actionable recommendations that inform enterprise and clinical strategy.
  • Support external stakeholder engagement (e.g., payers, PBMs, partners) by articulating the value proposition of clinical programs through rigorous evidence.
  • Establish standardized methodologies for validating clinical programs, including outcome measurement, comparative effectiveness, and program performance assessment.
  • Partner with internal analytics, clinical, and product teams to ensure clinical initiatives are supported by high-quality evidence.
  • Provide independent, objective assessment of clinical program effectiveness to guide optimization and strategic prioritization.
  • Develop and oversee a publication agenda aligned with Clinical Division priorities.
  • Author and guide the creation of peer-reviewed manuscripts, white papers, and case studies that highlight the clinical, economic, and operational impact of programs.
  • Ensure consistency and rigor in external clinical messaging while tailoring content to scientific, payer, and industry audiences.
  • Build editorial and publication partnerships with journals, trade organizations, and academic collaborators.
  • Lead the conference strategy and external thought leadership related to the Clinical Division.
  • Identify priority conferences and forums; develop a coordinated annual conference plan.
  • Secure speaking opportunities, panels, and keynote roles for organizational leaders and subject matter experts.
  • Represent the organization at major industry, scientific, and payer conferences to enhance visibility and credibility.
  • Act as an external ambassador for the Clinical Division, engaging with academic institutions, trade organizations, policy groups, and research consortia.
  • Maintain ongoing awareness of industry trends, emerging evidence, and competitor activity to inform clinical and economic strategy.
  • Build and sustain relationships that expand the organization’s influence and thought leadership footprint.
  • Work in close partnership with the Chief Medical Officer to align external evidence generation and communication with clinical vision and enterprise strategy.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with clinical operations, analytics, product, communications, legal, and account teams.
  • Mentor and guide internal teams and contributors involved in outcomes research, analytics, and clinical program evaluation.
  • Ensure high standards of scientific integrity, methodological rigor, and regulatory compliance across all external-facing deliverables.
  • Manages assigned staff in the segment area.
  • Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of the unit.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
  • Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Supports and enforces all company policies and procedures in a fair and consistent manner, taking corrective action whenever necessary.
  • This is an internal and external client facing position that requires excellent customer service skills and interpersonal communication skills (listening/verbal/written).
  • One must be able to; manage difficult or emotional client situations; Respond promptly to client needs; Solicit client feedback to improve service; Respond to requests for service and assistance from clients; Meet commitments to clients.
