About The Position

Responsible for planning, directing, and overseeing the Credit Union's Finance and Accounting operations. The Vice President of Finance ensures the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of financial reporting and recordkeeping while supporting the Credit Union's strategic and operational objectives. This role ensures compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and all applicable State and Federal regulations. Provides financial leadership, analysis, and reporting to support informed decision‑making by senior management. Ensures that finance and accounting services are delivered professionally, efficiently, and in the best interest of the Credit Union and its members. Functions as a member of the management team, is aligned with and promotes U1 values, provides leadership, and participates in establishing and implementing departmental goals, objectives, policies, and plans.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent experience, required.
  • At least five years of progressive related experience in a financial environment
  • Minimum of three years of supervisory experience.
  • Experience in and knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and all applicable State and Federal regulations.
  • Strong knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
  • Knowledge of financial institution accounting practices and regulatory requirements.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Strong supervisory, leadership, and communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products and financial systems.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in related field preferred.
  • Credit union experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assumes responsibility for the development and implementation of effective planning for areas of responsibility, including establishing and maintaining short‑ and long‑term departmental goals that align with the Credit Union's business plan.
  • Oversees the daily operations of Finance and Accounting, including but not limited to accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, fixed assets, payroll, taxes, investments accounting, ATM balancing, budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis, and financial reporting.
  • Establishes departmental financial objectives and ensures accurate and timely preparation of daily, monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and management reports.
  • Participates in the creation of the budget, manages the budget for assigned departments and monitors overall variances on an ongoing basis. Prepares budget variance analysis and recommends corrective actions as needed.
  • Provides financial analysis, forecasting, and reporting to senior management to support operational and strategic decision‑
  • Monitors cost control activities and implements or recommends strategies to improve efficiency and financial performance.
  • Ensures financial records, reports, and practices comply with GAAP, regulatory requirements, and Credit Union policies and procedures.
  • May work with external auditors for financial audits. Ensures audit requests are completed accurately and timely.
  • Participates in determining deposit and loan rates and provides financial input related to pricing, product performance, and profitability.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of Credit Union operations, financial systems, and supporting software platforms. Works collaboratively with other departments to support organizational goals.
  • Assumes responsibility for ensuring the effective administration of assigned departments, including structure, policies, procedures, budget, expense management, management communications, reports, attending meetings, participating in committees, and completion of required reports and special projects. Keeps leadership informed of significant financial issues or risks.
  • Conducts periodic reviews of departmental activities and evaluates effectiveness through financial and operational analysis.
  • Effectively oversees assigned staff, ensuring optimal performance. Provides leadership through objective setting, coaching, communication, training, and performance management.
  • Responsible for motivating and ensuring staff are well trained, effective, and optimally utilized. Identifies training needs and develops and implements appropriate training programs.
  • Conducts performance evaluations and provides ongoing feedback. Implements corrective actions or recognition as appropriate.
  • Ensures appropriate staffing levels. Participates in interviewing, hiring, and assigning personnel.
  • Assists, supports, and serves personnel as needed to ensure continuity of operations and service excellence.
  • Assumes responsibility for establishing and maintaining effective coordination with management and other departments. Ensures finance activities support the Credit Union's goals and professional standards.
  • Assumes responsibility for related duties and/or projects as required or assigned. Ensures legal and regulatory requirements are integrated into current practices and stays informed of accounting standards and industry trends.
