About The Position

This position is at NY Green Bank, a division of NYSERDA. NY Green Bank is a sustainable infrastructure investment fund and a division of the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA). NY Green Bank is a State-sponsored, specialized financial entity that works with the private sector to increase investments into New York’s clean energy markets, creating a more efficient, reliable and sustainable energy system. As a green bank, it uses public capital to mobilize private investment to address and alleviate specific gaps and barriers in current clean energy capital markets, with the goal of enabling private investors to expand their sustainable infrastructure portfolios over time. NY Green Bank’s mission is to work in collaboration with the private sector to animate financing markets through innovative transactions that accelerate clean energy investments, combat climate change, and equitably deliver both economic and environmental benefits to all New Yorkers. JOB OVERVIEW The Vice President, Business Development and Innovation, will be responsible for actively advancing NYGB’s business development efforts, proactively identifying funding gaps and market barriers in New York’s clean energy marketplace and help create new product solutions with the assistance of existing NYGB teams to develop and implement solutions. These solutions will complement, increase, and enhance NYGB’s product offerings, to address systemic issues from multiple approaches, while maintaining adherence to governing directives. This group will focus primarily on driving new business towards NYGB – including fostering and maintaining relationships with clients and counterparties from both the public and private sectors. In addition, this team will work in conjunction with the Senior Associate and our marketing team to ensure appropriate market sounding, solution execution, and product promotion for NYGB.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and five years’ experience
  • Leads business development activities, including developing, fostering and maintaining relationships with project sponsors, utilities, NYS agencies and authorities, capital providers and other market participants active in New York’s clean energy marketplace.
  • Experience in executing project finance deals required
  • Fosters strong relationships with the broader NYSERDA organization through regular meetings and contact. Enhances such relationships by creating synergistic opportunities for new business. Maintains up to date knowledge of programs administered by NYSERDA and other New York entities.
  • Participates in the development and implementation of individual transactions as well as solutions that are broader than, and complementary to, NYGB’s individual transaction offerings.
  • Structures and manages new project financings, ensuring risk parameters are adequately met. Works comfortably with financial models.
  • Delves into industry verticals to develop new product offerings, such as in the energy storage, electric vehicle, energy generation, and building decarbonization market segments, particularly in the affordable or disadvantaged real estate space.
  • Actively maintains outreach and progress with current and prospective business partners through CRM and other means.
  • Performs business development activity within NYGB internally, ensuring that outreach is coordinated and effective.
  • Effective negotiator and persuasive communicator that can creatively structures solutions to complex financing problems.
  • Highly organized and capable of managing multiple parallel workstreams under tight deadlines.

  • Ensures NYGB products and solutions are well known. Structures NYGB business while ultimately serving to crowd more private capital into NYGB priority investment areas.
  • Advances market research and intelligence, including external market forces, and determine how such impacts could affect NYGB and its borrowers.
  • Performs other responsibilities as needed.

  • Master’s degree in Business Administration and four years’ experience. Experience in executing project finance deals required.

Responsibilities

  • Advances business development activities, including support for developing, fostering and maintaining relationships with project sponsors, utilities, NYS agencies and authorities, capital providers and other market participants active in New York’s clean energy marketplace.
  • Partners with Managing Director on the development of strategic business development plans and cross-functional initiatives.
  • Partners with Managing Director to help support identified priorities and overall organizational goals.
  • Creates and manages new business development opportunities on an industry basis or a programmatic basis with new sponsors or financial counterparts.
  • Maintains and develops new relationships with financial intermediaries in the clean energy space.
  • Maintains and develops new relationships with project developers in the clean energy space.
  • Works with financial models for energy project finance and real estate finance.
  • Stays informed of industry trends, emerging technologies, regulatory shifts, and market barriers.
  • Oversees work quality and ensure professional development through coaching and feedback.
