About The Position

The City of Aurora is seeking an experienced Water Utility Inspection Technician who will assist in the Inspection of construction-related professional services during the construction phase of water projects. Water Utility Inspection Technicians assist in ensuring compliance with plans, specifications, rules, regulations and city codes. Incumbents, as assigned, perform entry-level inspections independently once fully trained of wet utilities and related systems including fire and life safety systems of residential and capital projects to ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations. Work within the Watch & Protect program to ensure no unauthorized work is occurring on the city’s raw water transmission system. This work includes: Completing driving inspections of the City’s critical infrastructure. Completing critical infrastructure standby inspections for contractors working within the City’s easements and Right or Way near critical infrastructure. Ensure license agreements and locates are in place and on-site before work begins and stops work if they are not. Observes water construction projects and elevates issues to supervisor. Completes standard inspection of new and repaired water and sanitary service lines and elevates discrepancies to supervisor. Communicates water issues with other city departments. Maintains accurate construction files and records. Conducts walk-throughs with contractors and inspects completed and in-progress work sites and elevates issues to supervisor. Performs miscellaneous field work such as gathering information, finding problem areas, and performing crude survey work. Assists on special projects as assigned. Performs other related duties as assigned. Requirements

  • An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.
  • Education: High School Diploma or GED
  • Associate’s degree preferred
  • Experience: At least one (1) year of experience performing utility construction inspections preferred
  • Experience in a public jurisdiction or consulting engineering firm preferred
  • An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates required knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered.
  • Knowledge: Knowledge of principles and techniques of construction as applicable to the construction of Utility projects Construction materials and equipment
  • Skills: Strong interpersonal and negotiation skills
  • Abilities: Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other departments, contractors, developers, and citizens Write detailed reports Inspect and document construction activities
  • Licenses and Certifications Required: Colorado driver's license with a good driving record

Nice To Haves

  • Associate’s degree preferred
  • Experience in a public jurisdiction or consulting engineering firm preferred
