Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • At least 18 years of age
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience in veterinary clinical setting ( Minimum of 1 year for assistant level )
  • Strong technical skills in anesthesia, surgery support, venipuncture and diagnostics
  • Working knowledge of veterinary terminology and medications
  • Ability to safely and confidently restrain animals
  • Strong organizational, communication, and multitasking skills
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical tasks (standing, bending, walking, lifting)
  • Passion for fear-free or low-stress handling
  • Self-motivated, dependable, and team-oriented

Responsibilities

  • Assist veterinarians with exams, treatments, and procedures
  • Prepare patients for surgery, including anesthesia administration, radiographs, and sample collection
  • Monitor patients during and after procedures to ensure safety and comfort
  • Maintain accurate, detailed medical records and patient histories
  • Collect and process samples (blood, urine, fecal, etc.)
  • Perform in-house lab testing and support interpretation of results
  • Administer medications, vaccines, and treatments as prescribed
  • Safely restrain animals and provide low-stress handling
  • Monitor hospitalized patients and communicate changes in condition
  • Obtain accurate medical histories
  • Educate clients on treatment plans, medications, and at-home care
  • Help create a positive, trusting client experience
  • Collaborate with veterinarians, assistants, and client service team members
  • Assist the front desk when needed to support overall hospital flow
