About The Position

Veterinary Technician II - Shelter Surgery The Arizona Humane Society is looking for a full time Shelter Surgery Vet Tech to join our high-volume spay and neuter department at our Papago Park Campus Monday through Friday. A Day in the Life: The Shelter Surgery Veterinary Technician will be responsible for assisting veterinarians in all aspects of AHS' Spay/Neuter initiatives including surgery, laboratory diagnostics, fluid therapy, emergency care as necessary, and the administration of prescribed medications. As a Shelter Surgery Veterinary Technician you will assist in surgery prep, induction, monitoring, and recovering as needed and work with veterinarians and other departments to ensure optimal animal care and flow. Job Requirements : High school diploma or GED required. At least 2 years of experience in a veterinary clinic/hospital setting required. Completion of a veterinary technician program preferred, experience may substitute for education. Must know phlebotomy, immunology, parasitology, endocrinology and pharmacology. Safe and humane animal handling skills are required. Must be proficient in anesthesiology. Provide excellent patient care in all perioperative phases for up to 50 cats and/or dogs per day. Must be able to function in a fast-paced environment. Physical Demands/Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Must be able to hear above the sound of the animals. There will be exposure to dust, heat, cold and temperature changes; wet floors, and animal noises, odors and dander. Most time will be spent in a typical air conditioned and heated office environment.
