About The Position

We are excited to share an exciting opportunity to play a role in the LSU School of Veterinary Medicine's new initiative, The Center for Clinical Innovation, as a Veterinary Technician 2. This is an outstanding professional position for a veterinary medical professional, registered veterinary technician, or the equivalent, who appreciates the value and impact of clinical research. The successful applicant will have an exciting role participating in cutting-edge clinical studies that will significantly advance the health and well-being of all companion pets, including equine, exotic, and farm animals, in a hospital with state-of-the-art technology. Applicants both with and without prior experience working in a clinical research setting are welcome. We are looking for a motivated, dedicated, and creative veterinary medical professional who is ready to level up their career. The incumbent will contribute to sample collection, patient care, client communication, and provide support for a variety of general and specialized procedures. The position is available immediately. Starting wage will be commensurate with professional and academic credentials and experience.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree with 3 years of applicable experience OR Associates degree in veterinary technology with 2 years of applicable experience OR CVT or equivalent with 2 years of applicable experience OR 5 Years of experience in a working environment with similar duties OR 2 years of experience as a Veterinary Technician 1 at LSU Vet Med.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's Degree and 4+ years of applicable experience working as a veterinary technician in a mixed animal practice (both large and small animals).
  • Prior knowledge and experience working in veterinary clinical trials.
  • Experience in biomedical research involving animals.
  • Familiarity with Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and relevant regulatory guidelines.

Responsibilities

  • The veterinary technician will be expected to participate in research protocols, as assigned, primarily to assist in animal handling, anesthesia, and post-operative care, sample collection, restraint, sample submission and requests for diagnostics, including but not limited to: forms, diagnostic procedure orders, samples and submission, client updates, discharges, billing, data entry, and patient discharge. Participate in the scheduling, organizing, performing, and troubleshooting of research procedures for numerous simultaneous clinical trials.
  • Works with clinical services in scheduling required client appointments. Have a basic working knowledge of specialized equipment in each area.
  • Collaborate with team members to develop project plans and set timelines. Assist with the performance of daily operations of Clinical Innovation Center, including but not limited to assisting the clinical trials manager, house officers, clinicians, and students with patients. Assists with sample and data collection from individual trial participants to ensure study progress continues as planned without interruption or delayed or incomplete sampling. This may involve multiple steps and a variety of materials and equipment.
  • Collaborate with Clinical Trial Manager and Director to recruit study participants. Monitor project progress, identify potential issues, and propose solutions. Use hospital systems to identify and screen potential trial participants of various studies based on study inclusion and exclusion criteria on a daily basis. Communicate with the regular service technicians and clinicians to maintain information and ensure smooth transitions during study visits. Assist clients and service clinicians with appointments, data collection, and prescription refills, ensuring SOP standards are maintained. Maintains patient records in all aspects of clinical trials.
  • Maintain project documentation, ensuring accuracy and completeness. Maintenance of daily patient census and maintain a record of information relayed to clients and referring veterinarians to make sure all individuals are up to date on all aspects of a clinical trial.
  • Participating in CE events and liaising with local clinics, veterinarians, and veterinary technicians to increase visibility of CCI.
  • Other duties as assigned by Clinical Research Manager and Director.
