Veterinary Clinical Skills Director Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor Lyon College School of Veterinary Medicine The Lyon College School of Veterinary Medicine invites applications and nominations for a Director of Clinical Skills (non-tenure track; Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor). As a member of our founding team, you will help build a clinical skills curriculum that empowers graduates to be not only career-ready, but future-ready veterinarians, prepared to meet the rapidly evolving demands of 21st century veterinary medicine. Primary responsibilities include teaching, service, and scholarly activities. Teaching activities are related to clinical skills, primary care, and wellness. Service activities vary according to individual preference and program needs. Scholarly activities depend upon the goals of the individual and time assignment to scholarship. A typical time assignment is 75% teaching, 20% scholarly activities, and 5% service. Alternative hiring models including part time, non-benefit eligible positions will be considered. This position will be based at the new Lyon College School of Veterinary Medicine in Cabot, Arkansas. The LCSVM is co-located with Cabot Animal Support Services (CASS). CASS is a local, state, and national model for shelter medicine, animal welfare, community relations, and education. Requirements

  • DVM or equivalent degree from an accredited institution.
  • Eligibility for veterinary licensure in Arkansas.
  • Demonstrated experience in clinical veterinary practice.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills in the delivery of veterinary/medical education, including an understanding of the principles of andragogy and pedagogy and their application in a professional curriculum.
  • Demonstrated record of advancing innovation and creativity in learning and scholarly pursuits.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Record of successfully contributing to collaborative teams.
  • Excellent organizational skills and detail-oriented success.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience teaching within a veterinary or medical school.
  • Advanced training or certification in veterinary education, simulation, or clinical skills assessment.
  • MS and/or PhD in veterinary education.
  • Experience with innovative technologies and methods, including artificial intelligence.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in educational and/or professional settings.
  • Demonstrated scholarly activities in education, innovations, entrepreneurship, and/or medical research.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and oversee the veterinary skills curriculum, ensuring alignment with accreditation standards and best practices.
  • Develop and maintain clinical skills laboratories, including simulation-based training and live-animal teaching opportunities.
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff to integrate clinical skills training throughout all years of the veterinary program.
  • Evaluate and assess student performance in clinical skills, using objective structured clinical examinations (OSCEs) and other competency and outcome assessment tools.
  • Mentor and train faculty, staff, and teaching assistants involved in clinical skills education.
  • Lead efforts to innovate and enhance clinical skills teaching, including the incorporation of new technologies and teaching methods.
  • Ensure compliance with all institutional, state, and national regulations regarding animal welfare and teaching practices.
  • Provide innovative education, mentorship, and guidance to all students in a variety of settings, including the classroom, clinical skills laboratory, and simulation center.
  • Participate in student assessment, feedback, and remediation to ensure that students meet LCSVM’s high academic standards.
  • Participate in overall curriculum development, delivery, assessment, and enhancement.
  • Provide service to Lyon College and the greater community by serving on committees, providing leadership, participating in community outreach events, and working with professional organizations and groups.
  • Maintain discipline and teaching expertise through continuing professional education.
  • Engage in scholarly activities, including research, authorship, presentations at conferences, teaching innovation, entrepreneurship, and mentorship of students in their scholarly activities, such as veterinary education, clinical skills development, incorporation of technologies in learning, and related areas.
  • Promote the mission of LCSVM to all faculty, staff, students, and to the local, state, national, and international communities, as appropriate.
  • Contribute to a culture of academic creativity, innovation, and collaboration that fosters student success.
  • Promote effective, collaborative, inclusive working relationships among faculty, staff, students, and stakeholders.
  • Advance the principles of andragogy and pedagogy throughout LCSVM.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Comply with all policies and standards.
