Veterinary Assistant - Emergency
About The Position
BluePearl Pet Hospital in Midtown, NYC is seeking a knowledgeable and skilled Veterinary Assistant to join our Emergency team! Schedule: Daytime, Thurs-Sat, 7am-7pm Pay: $22.50 - $32.80 / hour + competitive shift differentials This pay band is dependent on experience and advancement through our competency assessment tool. We offer competitive shift differential pay for eligible hours worked for nights and weekends. Shift differentials are based on a 4-hour minimum. For example: Mon – Fri: 6pm to 8am = +$4.50/hr. Shift Differential Sat & Sun: 8am to 6pm = +$4.50/hr. Shift Differential Sat & Sun: 6pm to 8am = +$8.00/hr. Shift Differential Our Veterinary Assistants triage emergency cases as they come in and assist DVM with crafting and going overestimates as needed. In addition, they perform diagnostics (radiographs, labwork, etc), setting patients up in ICU or Inpatient ward, discharging patients, and handling client communication.
Responsibilities
- Assist with nursing care to patients according to hospital standards of care and core values.
- Stock, clean and maintain cleanliness in our ER, ICU and other designated areas for the role.
- Understand classification of commonly used medications, associated side effects and appropriately monitors therapeutic response.
- Administer medications via appropriate routes and duration under the guidance of an LVT.
- Perform radiography and lab work.
- Perform physical exam; accurately counts heart, pulse rate, capillary refill time, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratory rate and effort.
- Engage with our clients by performing triages, going over estimates and providing discharge instruction.
- Remain current on R.E.C.O.V.E.R CPR guidelines and demonstrates proficiency in designated role as assigned by attending clinician and/or supervisor.
