About The Position

The Veterinary Assistant supports our Doctors and Technicians in delivering both medical and emotional care to pets while maintaining a clean, organized, and efficient hospital environment. This is a developmental role designed for individuals eager to grow within veterinary medicine, offering structured mentorship, hands-on training, and a clear pathway toward becoming a Veterinary Technician. Veterinary Assistants play a vital role in supporting the medical team and building the technical foundation for a lifelong career in animal healthcare

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; additional coursework or certification in veterinary assisting, animal science, or related field preferred.
  • Compassionate and patient with animals of all temperaments.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills with an eagerness to learn.
  • Reliable, organized, and detail-oriented in a fast-paced environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience in a veterinary, shelter, or animal care setting preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Gently handle and safely restrain patients during exams, treatments, and procedures using Fear Free techniques.
  • Prepare exam and treatment areas, ensuring cleanliness, readiness, and efficiency.
  • Assist with patient preparation for diagnostics, imaging, surgery, and dental procedures.
  • Monitor patients during recovery, reporting any changes in condition or behavior to veterinary staff.
  • Feed, water, walk, and comfort hospitalized or boarding pets according to care instructions.
  • Collect samples (urine, fecal, skin/ear cytology) and prepare them for laboratory analysis.
  • Maintain proper sanitation, including cleaning instruments, kennels, cages, and exam rooms.
  • Restock supplies and assist in inventory management to support smooth daily operations.
  • Greet clients warmly and assist with check-in, weighing, and escorting pets to exam rooms.
  • Support the veterinary team by explaining general procedures and reinforcing home-care instructions as directed.
  • Provide reassurance to clients and ensure each visit reflects our mission of calm, compassionate, Fear Free care.
  • Work closely with veterinarians and technicians to ensure timely patient flow and communication.
  • Participate in daily huddles, team meetings, and training sessions.
  • Adhere to all safety, infection control, and equipment maintenance protocols.
  • Model professionalism and positivity, helping to maintain a supportive, emotionally intelligent workplace culture.
