The Oncology department specifically requires an Oncology Veterinary Assistant to assist with chemotherapy and radiation treatments, venipuncture, IV catheter placement, and client education and communication. This role operates in a fast-paced environment, demanding meticulous attention to detail, compassion, and a strong commitment to delivering excellent patient care.

Requirements

  • Prior veterinary experience required
  • Proficient in calculations (drugs, constant rate infusions, unit conversions, etc.)
  • Flexibility with work hours and able to work additional hours when necessary
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Nice To Haves

  • previous oncology experience desired

Responsibilities

  • Managing appointments: obtaining histories, medical record keeping, invoicing, patient discharges, etc., as well as organize and manage daily service flow
  • Ensure documentation is accurate and complete
  • Assist with chemotherapy and radiation therapy protocols
  • Safety as it relates to secondary exposure and patient safety
  • Administration procedures including extravasation protocols
  • Medications, protocols and related drug dosages
  • Drug calculations as they relate to the treatment plan
  • Side effects and general treatment guidelines
  • Vertical-flow hood maintenance
  • Clinical studies/trials
  • Setting up/assisting with CT and radiation treatments
  • Venipuncture, restraint, basic laboratory skills
  • Intravenous catheter placement, endotracheal intubation and anesthetic equipment use and maintenance
  • Client communication and education
