About The Position

The Veterinary Assistant at Banfield Pet Hospital is a key member of the hospital team, supporting and assisting veterinarians and veterinary technicians to ensure the safety of pets, clients, and other associates, and the continuity of quality veterinary care. This role involves advocating for pets, educating clients on all aspects of pet health, and providing professional, efficient, and exceptional service to ensure comfort for clients and pets. Veterinary Assistants utilize their technical skills daily, adhering to state practice acts and NAVTA guidelines. Responsibilities include helping maintain patient flow, communicating with the veterinary team, carrying out or setting up procedures that do not require veterinarian or vet tech assistance, and maintaining hospital standards for safety and cleanliness. They also educate clients about Optimum Wellness Plans® and preventive care, and mentor other hospital team members. Must be able to perform all required skills of NAVTA-approved veterinary assistant programs at a level that aids in the efficiency of the practice

Certificate of completion from a NAVTA-approved veterinary assistant program or the equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities
High school diploma or equivalent preferred

Responsibilities

Support and assist the veterinarians and veterinary technicians
Ensure the safety of pets, clients and other associates
Ensure the continuity of quality veterinary care
Advocate for pets
Educate clients on all aspects of pet health
Provide professional, efficient and exceptional service at all times
Make sure that clients and pets are comfortable in the hospital
Use technical skills on a daily basis, within state practice acts and as outlined in the NAVTA guidelines for veterinary assistant skills and duties
Help maintain the flow of patients
Communicate with the veterinarian and vet techs
Carry out or set up procedures that do not require veterinarian or vet tech assistance
Adhere to hospital standards that keep pets safe, and the treatment areas, exam rooms and labs clean and organized

Mentor other members of the hospital team
