About The Position

West Loop Veterinary Care is a state-of-the-art, AAHA-accredited, Cat Friendly, and Fear Free Certified practice in Chicago’s West Loop neighborhood. Our compassionate team is dedicated to building strong relationships and delivering exceptional care to pets and their families. We foster a positive environment with a collaborative team that includes Hospital Attendants, Patient Care Coordinators, Veterinary Assistants, and Technicians. We are seeking a Veterinary Assistant to work closely with our doctors and support team. Responsibilities will include patient handling and care, client communication and education, medication preparation, assisting with laboratory analysis, and maintaining organized exam rooms.

Requirements

  • Minimum experience of at least one year working in a veterinary hospital setting.
  • Knowledge of hospital operations and passion for pet care.
  • Strong communication and client service skills.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a dynamic, team-oriented environment.
  • Positive attitude and compassion for animals.

Nice To Haves

  • Proficiency with veterinary practice management software; experience with EzyVet is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Support veterinarians and veterinary technicians in providing compassionate, safe, and efficient care for all patients, including restraint, monitoring vital signs, and observing patient behavior for any changes in condition.
  • Provide support to the veterinarian and veterinary technician as directed in various areas of the hospital; provide professional and efficient client service.
  • Provide clients with clear, accurate, and empathetic information regarding their pets’ health, treatment plans, preventive care, and follow-up instructions, ensuring a positive client experience and fostering strong client relationships.
  • Communicate with doctors and technicians regarding patient status, trends, or concerns.
  • Provide after care for patients according to owner wishes.
  • Communicate any patient or client concerns to appropriate personnel.
  • Provide, monitor, and document all patient care history such as cleanliness, nutrition, necessary and appropriate bedding, physical therapy, exercise, comfort and support.
  • Accurately prepare and dispense medications, vaccines, and treatments as directed by veterinary staff; assist with laboratory sample collection, processing, and analysis to support diagnostic and treatment procedures.
  • Maintain a safe, sanitary, and well-organized clinical environment, including thorough cleaning and disinfection of exam rooms, proper stocking of supplies, and ensuring equipment is functioning and ready for use.
  • Follow all OSHA and hospital policies, keep all areas clean, organized, and restocked.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
