About The Position

We are seeking a Veterinarian to contribute to a comprehensive program of veterinary care and research support across a diverse range of species. Requirements

  • A degree in Veterinary Science (or equivalent) recognised in Australia
  • Registration or eligibility for registration as a Veterinary Surgeon in Victoria
  • Demonstrated experience in a research animal or comparable regulated environment
  • Strong working knowledge of federal and Victorian legislation, codes, and ethical requirements relevant to research animals
  • Exceptional organisational and problem-solving skills in complex, fast-paced settings
  • High-level written and verbal communication skills, with experience producing quality reports and advice
  • A proactive, service-focused approach and strong commitment to animal welfare and compliance
  • Advanced computer literacy, including documentation, data, and reporting systems

Nice To Haves

  • Postgraduate qualifications in laboratory animal science, veterinary science, public health, or a related field
  • Experience supporting a program of veterinary care within a research or regulated environment
  • Demonstrated experience in regulatory compliance frameworks relevant to animal research (e.g. animal ethics, biosafety)

Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality clinical, emergency, and preventative veterinary car e
  • Work within a welcoming and dedicated team to provide regular veterinary oversight, diagnosis, treatment, and surgical support across MARP facilities
  • Investigate, manage, and report animal health incidents, adverse events, and disease outbreaks
  • Act as a subject matter expert in animal health, welfare, and the use of animals in research and teaching
  • Design and deliver world-class education and training in research animal skills and best-practice husbandry
  • Monitor and support compliance with animal welfare, biosafety, gene technology, WHS, and legislative requirements
  • Contribute to policies, SOPs, quality frameworks, audits, and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Support research outcomes through service delivery, data analysis, reporting, and scientific service delivery
  • Stay at the forefront of veterinary and research innovations, recommending new methodologies and technologies where appropriate
