About The Position

Parsons is seeking a Veterinarian Technician II to support Naval Medical Research Unit – San Antonio (NAMRU-SA) and its collaborating institutions in the care and management of laboratory animals. NAMRU-SA’s mission is to improve survival, operational readiness, and safety of DoD personnel engaged in routine and expeditionary operations. The Veterinarian Technician II will conduct and support surgical procedures, maintain operating room standards, and ensure animal health surveillance. The role involves coordinating animal research activities, maintaining biosafety practices, and ensuring compliance with standards through regular inspections.

Requirements

  • Laboratory Animal Technician (LAT) certification and Veterinary Technician degree, or High School Diploma/GED plus four (4) years’ related experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct and support surgical procedures and maintain operating room standards.
  • Proficiency in handling and restraining various animal species.
  • Strong skills in maintaining biosafety practices and coordinating animal research activities.
  • Excellent organizational skills for preparing purchase requests and maintaining inventory.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct and support surgical procedures, operating room maintenance, animal disease prevention and health surveillance, appropriate animal housing, and record keeping, ensuring specific pathogen-free techniques.
  • Handle and restrain various small and large animal species daily.
  • Maintain biosafety practices, sterile equipment, pest control, quality assurance procedures, and record keeping.
  • Conduct daily and weekly inspections of areas of contractor responsibility to ensure compliance with standards.
  • Assist in the preparation of purchase requests for animal procurement and coordination of shipping procedures.
  • Assist in the preparation of purchase requests and assist with the maintenance of inventory of supplies.
  • Coordinate animal research work activities between contractor Research Scientist, animal care staff, and research laboratory technicians.
