About The Position

The Port of Seattle is committed to assisting military personnel departing active-duty service transition to civilian employment. The Veteran's Fellowship Program is designed to provide short term (6 months) employment that will assist veterans selected for the program in identifying transferable skills, exposure to a civilian work environment, career assistance, exposure to corporate business practices, mentoring, and resume and interview assistance. This position will lead and drive innovative solutions for solid waste management at SEA Airport. This role is essential for coordinating and managing a team of professionals from multiple departments to address pressing waste management challenges at SEA and work towards the development and implementation of sustainable waste management practices.

Requirements

  • You have a minimum of three (3) years of active duty or mobilized reserve duty service in a branch of the U.S. Military Service (which includes the United States Coast Guard).
  • Documentation of an honorable discharge from active or reserve status must be presented as part of the application process.
  • Veterans Fellowship applicants must be within twenty-four (24) months of discharge to apply for a fellowship unless they have not worked full-time since their discharge and have been a full-time student in a degree or certification program since their discharge.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a multidisciplinary team across departments, fostering collaboration, accountability, and alignment with SEA’s waste reduction objectives.
  • Support the design and refine strategic frameworks for solid waste diversion, reduction, and reuse, integrating best practices and emerging technologies tailored to SEA’s unique operational environment.
  • Oversee the planning, execution, and evaluation of waste-related initiatives, ensuring timely delivery, budget adherence, and measurable impact.
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret waste stream data to inform strategic decisions, track performance metrics, and support regulatory compliance and public transparency.
  • Engage internal and external stakeholders—including tenants, vendors, regulatory bodies, and community partners—to build support for sustainable waste practices and drive behavioral change.
  • Identify inefficiencies and opportunities for innovation within existing waste systems, championing pilot programs and iterative improvements that advance SEA’s sustainability goals.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
