About The Position

The Director of Vertical Construction will oversee the planning, execution, and financial performance of ITL’s building and vertical infrastructure projects. This includes renovation, construction, and structural upgrades primarily for federal clients and select commercial customers. The Director is responsible for operational leadership of ITL’s vertical construction business line, including project execution, financial performance, customer relationships, and internal coordination. This role directly supports ITL’s growth objectives by ensuring projects are delivered safely, profitably, and in compliance with contractual and regulatory requirements. This position has full responsibility for division-level P&L performance and outcomes to ensure alignment with ITL’s annual budget, revenue targets, and strategic objectives. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, or business preferred; equivalent combination of education and experience considered. Will consider 8 years of direct experience in exchange for a bachelor’s degree.
  • Minimum of ten (10) years of experience leading large-scale federal vertical construction projects exceeding $20M in value. This is in addition to the 8 years traded for a degree.
  • Proven leadership of cross-functional teams.
  • Strong experience working within firm-fixed-price, design-build, and design-bid-build contract structures.
  • Possession of a valid, unrestricted driver’s license.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain access credentials required for entry to federal, state, or local government facilities, as applicable.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a REAL ID compliant driver’s license or valid U.S. passport for identification and travel requirements.
  • Strong financial acumen, including project forecasting, margin analysis, and understanding of cost drivers that impact profitability and cash flow.
  • Proficiency with enterprise construction and project controls platforms such as MS Project, Procore, Costpoint, InEight, Army Corps RMS, NAVFAC eCMS, Oracle P6, and similar tools.
  • Ability to analyze and manage complex, multi-phase schedules with a clear understanding of critical path, sequencing, and schedule impacts.
  • Working knowledge of contract structures, risk allocation, and compliance requirements relevant to federal and commercial construction projects.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present clearly to executive leadership, customers, and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to travel to project sites and customer facilities across the US.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to ever changing priorities.
  • Ability to operate effectively within cross-functional systems and workflows, including project controls, finance, contracts, and operations, with a focus on consistency, transparency, and continuous improvement.
  • Accountable for meeting high performance standards and agreed upon commitments.
  • Comfortable leveraging technology and data, and emerging tools, to support operational decision-making, process improvement, and risk mitigation.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, and hold teams accountable while driving results in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

Nice To Haves

  • MBA or another relevant advanced degree is a plus.
  • Experience supporting or operating within SBA 8(a) program environments preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Support Business Development (BD) in identification, assessment, and pursuit of new opportunities.
  • Participate in capture strategy, teaming, and bid development.
  • Evaluate business opportunities using proven analytics, developed relationships, or key market data and gain buy in to pursue.
  • Represent ITL in customer meetings and industry engagements as needed.
  • Build and maintain positive and revenue generating relationships with industry contacts.
  • Oversee the successful execution of awarded vertical construction projects, from preconstruction through closeout.
  • Analyze and evaluate current programs and processes to ensure compliant, coordinated, and efficient execution across the vertical construction portfolio.
  • Work with key management across the division to improve revenue outcomes through efficient and effective programs, projects, and practices.
  • Assess contract management for effectiveness and customer satisfaction.
  • Proactively identify and mitigate operational risks through targeted oversight, supporting project teams to prevent delays and execution issues.
  • Oversee subcontractor selection, onboarding, and field integration.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant safety requirements.
  • Lead and manage program managers, project managers, engineers, and other staff within the vertical construction group.
  • Set clear performance expectations and monitor individual and team metrics.
  • Provide mentorship, coaching, and career development opportunities for team members.
  • Oversee project financials including budgets, cost tracking, and forecasting.
  • Participate in billing reviews and ensure timely revenue recognition.
  • Provide regular financial and performance updates to ITL leadership and Finance, including forecast accuracy, risk items, and corrective actions.
