Your Impact The Vertex Process Development Drug Product Co-Op program is a 6-month experiential training program for students currently working towards undergraduate or advanced degree. What you will be doing: Be a member of Drug Product (DP) PD team to characterize and implement bulk formulation and automated product filling process to support scale-up initiatives for T1D program. The co-op student will work closely with Drug Product development team at LC1 in strategic study planning, execute process characterization and suitability studies, analyze data, and generate reports. The student will also work on automated bag filling systems and evaluate other related process technologies. In addition, the student will lead or support studies to generate empirical data to validate Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) modeling. An excellent opportunity for process development working with TD1 SC derived islets, hand-on experience with custom-built bag filling and other technologies.

Requirements

  • Enrolled in an undergraduate or advanced degree program
  • General knowledge of cell biology, cell culture, harvest, and fill finish
  • Knowledge of fluid dynamics and thermodynamics (Freeze/Thaw)
  • General knowledge of laboratory practices
  • Proficiency in Excel, Data analysis software (JMP or Prism)
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States, now and in the future. Please note that Vertex does not provide sponsorship for internships or entry level roles within this part of the organization.
  • You must be enrolled in an advanced degree program if graduating before June 2026
  • You must be available to work full-time, 40 hours per week from January - June 2026

Responsibilities

  • Lead or support developmental study design
  • Manage study timeline, execution, and data analysis (within the team or cross-function)
  • Train and conduct cell counting, cell imaging, cell morphology and sizes
  • Train and operate automated bag filling systems and other equipment
  • Communicate with other groups (Analytical Development (AD), other PD teams) for material handling and sampling
