About The Position

Our Energy Design group seeks students who would like to gain practical experience while working on building energy analysis in a consulting environment. Within our group's core activities of simulation and verification, the student will research building technologies, review construction documents, and analyze collected data. Strong preference will be given to mechanical engineering students willing to work through a semester (e.g. May through December). The Verification Technician position performs construction document reviews, various take-offs, and creation of draft reports for projects that have finished design or have completed construction. The primary responsibility is developing supporting documentation to confirm the status of planned energy saving measures and assistance in the creation of associated reports. The role seeks a strong interest in sustainable design features, integrated building design projects, and measurement and verification of building and engineered systems' performance.

Requirements

  • Pursuing Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering; Technical degree with emphasis on HVAC, energy efficiency, or sustainability.
  • Familiarity with MS Excel to manipulate and capture and summarize take-off information.
  • Knowledgeable of design or construction processes and/or building operation, as well as general understanding of thermodynamics, physics, mathematics, and energy codes.
  • Demonstrated ability to accurately analyze information.
  • Positive attitude, goal oriented, integrity and sense of ownership.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Technical flexibility and a desire to learn.

Responsibilities

  • Work on a portfolio of projects at different stages of a construction process.
  • Collaborate with energy analysts to develop reports on achievement of energy savings objectives.
  • Review Construction Documents and perform the necessary take-offs for lighting, occupancy sensor controls, daylighting, as well as determining characteristics of envelope and HVAC systems.
  • Team with project managers and others to ensure high quality results and deliverables.
