About The Position

Provides installation, service, maintenance, and removal of mobile 2-way radio communications systems, mobile computing hardware, structured wiring systems, emergency lights and siren equipment in Chesterfield County vehicles. Duties also include planning and oversight of special projects supporting the County's public safety radio communications via programming, troubleshooting, and evaluating hand-held and vehicle installed radios working on the county's VHF/UHF and 800MHz trunking systems and other special projects related to public safety vehicle equipment, communications, and information. (i.e. light bar programming, bracket fabrications, custom vehicle installations, etc.). Perform other work as required. This position is a part of an approved Career Development Plan (CDP) and offers career progression opportunities and salary incentives, as funding permits, based on performance, qualifications, and experience.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Four (4) years of experience in vehicle communication-electronics field and two (2) years of experience in installation of two-way radio systems in Public Safety emergency vehicles; or an equivalent combination of training, certification, and experience with vehicle electrical systems
  • Must be able to distinguish between various colored wires
  • Understand and operate hand/power tools and electronic test & measurement equipment (wattmeter, multimeter, etc.)
  • Current valid driver's license and good driving record required
  • Based on the Virginia DMV point system, record must not reflect a total of six or more demerit points within the twenty-four months preceding the anticipated hire date, or one major violation of six demerit points within the preceding thirty-six months
  • Out of state driving records must be obtained by applicant and presented at time of interview
  • Records must reflect at least three years of history and be dated within thirty days of interview date
  • Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check, and education/degree verification required
  • This position is subject to working in high security areas governed by the US Department of Justice's "Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Security Policy" and therefore requires successfully passing a more stringent criminal background check
  • Ability to perform physically demanding work including, but not limited to standing for prolonged periods, squatting, stooping, bending, twisting, stretching, crawling, reaching overhead, and working in awkward positions without choice or variety
