About The Position

McDonald Automotive is seeking to add an experienced vehicle buyer to our team! Our Vehicle Acquisitions department oversees the used vehicle inventory for our 13 dealerships. This includes online auction purchasing, customer direct purchasing, and conducting trade appraisals, plus overseeing pricing, marketing, and reconditioning for used inventory. The Buyer role will primarily focus on wholesale auction purchases and post-sale management, but also includes a share of inventory management and trade appraisal duties. Successful candidates should be comfortable working closely with the vehicle acquisition team as well as assisting the sales staff, while also demonstrating their ability to stay focused on their individual purchase objectives. Requirements

  • Prior automotive industry experience required including 2+ years of previous vehicle buying experience
  • Previous wholesale auction buying experience strongly preferred, either online or in person
  • Familiarity with vAuto/Stockwave or similar inventory management software with demonstratable competence is required
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks, and achieve supervisor directed objectives is required
  • Comfort with technology-based platforms and ability to learn new systems is required
  • Exceptional written and communication skills are a must

Nice To Haves

  • Previous CarMax Buyer training and experience is a plus
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Ongoing analysis of current wholesale market trends
  • Achievement of monthly purchase quotas and gross profit margin targets
  • Ability to strategically source vehicles from multiple online sources including dealer auctions, private auctions, and fleet direct relationships
  • Manage post sales process including coordinating payment, freight, logistics and arbitration
  • Develop and maintain ongoing relationships with auction personnel, and internal partners
  • Serve as subject matter expert for market conditions, trends and changes in your geographic market
  • Support store staff as it relates to purchasing and evaluating used vehicles and pricing inventory strategically to market conditions
  • Review and analyze actions at the end of each day, week, month, to determine how to better utilize time and plan more effectively
