About The Position
History and spectacular landscapes come together, at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Celebrated landmarks, including Thomas Jefferson's Monticello and the University of Virginia, are clustered here among swathes of the East Coast's most beautiful scenery. The region is also home to over 25 wineries, breweries and cideries. This is the setting for Keswick Hall, an impressive 80-room luxury boutique hotel nestled on 600 acres which recently re-opened in 2021 after renovations. Home to the prestigious Keswick Golf Club, Marigold Restaurant, by Jean-Georges, a new luxury spa and sports and aquatics center. Coordinates with Director of Landscape for all vegetable areas. Responsible for Oakdale Vegetable Garden operations.
Requirements
- Strong Vegetable garden knowledge on commercial to small garden scale market garden required.
- Ability to work flexible shifts, weekends and holidays.
- A positive attitude.
- Willing to work in team atmosphere but also individually.
- Minimum of a bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) and 0-2 years of experience. However, a combination of experience and/or education will be taken into consideration.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Lifting will be required. (Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs).
- Ability to do physical work in a variety of weather conditions including but not limited to extreme heat and cold.
- Uniform will be provided. Employees are responsible for maintaining a clean/crisp looking uniform.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate with Director of Landscaping in all areas of Vegetable Garden crops.
- Supervise employees of grounds and culinary as directed by DLM.
- Apply control measures for insects or diseases, weeds for optimal fertility.
- Assist in planting, seeding, staking, mulching, weeding, monitoring water/irrigation, harvesting timing on crops and flowers.
- Harvesting, washing and delivering products to Keswick kitchen or flower shop.
- Keeping records of amount of product harvesting, successional crop rotation.
- Keep shop and tools clean and tidy.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
