POSITION SUMMARY The Value Stream Leader coordinates all activities associated with a specific value stream with the relevant functional stakeholders to ensure the value stream meets or exceeds customer requirements. Utilizing an understanding of the value stream and process capabilities, the VSL will eliminate waste in overall operations from start to finish. The VSL will utilize Lean tools to facilitate communication, execution, and accountability. Within the value stream, this role drives implementation, alignment, and execution of business processes to ensure maximum benefit is derived.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in organizational development, Process Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
  • 5+ years of successful leadership experience with increasing levels of responsibility in manufacturing.
  • 5+ years of successful Continuous Improvement experience using Lean Six Sigma tools and visual factory.
  • Strong computer skills including MS office specifically proficient in Excel application; ability to quickly learn new systems
  • Experience driving Lean manufacturing principles and implementation/understanding of production systems, including setting and maintaining meaningful metrics to drive improvement
  • Experience interacting with customers at high levels of the organization
  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
  • Facilitation and coaching skills, particularly cross-functions
  • Ability to overcome resistance to organizational change, influence both hourly and salaried employees to embrace it, and lead the change initiative.
  • Requires high level of plant floor presence to establish extensive knowledge of processes and opportunities for Improvement, engaging employees at all levels in identifying solutions.
  • All candidates must be eligible to work on government contracts.

Nice To Haves

  • Lean Certified / Six Sigma Blackbelt preferred
  • Experience in high volume production environments
  • Knowledge of films extruding and/or converting is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Own and maintains the Value Steam Map for a start to finish defined product family. Responsible for achieving the financial requirements of the value stream by way of operational output (sales), margin performance and overhead budget (profit), and on time delivery (cash).
  • Responsible for the daily coordination of all production activities and continuous improvement efforts in an assigned value stream.
  • Drive performance within the value stream utilizing lean process activities (daily accounting process, leader standard work, managing systems, standard KPIs, 6S, and troubleshooting techniques) – works to improve operational discipline
  • Collaborate with Quality, Supply Chain, Engineering, and Human Resources to ensure achievement of high quality products, production plans to meet customer service, manufacturing cost objectives, new product commercialization launches, machine reliability and performance improvements, and to best recruit and retain new and existing associates.
  • Perform GEMBA Walks with other stakeholders to develop learnings and best practices and to define opportunities for improvement
  • Executes the operational team plan identifying the key actions required during the fiscal year to ensure operational goals and commitment are met
  • Maintains value stream informational boards and prepares informational reports and daily status updates as required. Attends and participates in daily meetings with the Operations Team and in other meetings as scheduled.
  • Ensures that material is being planned and requisitioned to meet the production schedule. Also ensures that inventory is accurately maintained and issued, and that variances are properly managed.
  • Partners with customers to understand customer needs and issues and ensure that the customers receive satisfactory standards of services.
